A Complete Introduction to Disco 1970-1980 - 4 CD Box
[Universal 5328514]
Universal has put together some 64 classic Disco tracks from their rich vault of music to create this wonderful 4 CD collection. It's an excursion into the music and songs that formed the Disco scene from 1970 to 1980.
You'll get introduction words by Remixer legend Tom Moulton, Disco writer & producer Patrick Adams and producer & DJ Wayne A. Dickson.
Besides you get interesting track-by-track anotations by the guys above along with people like Candi Staton, Bobby Eli, Arthur Baker, Leroy Burgess, Steve Arrington, Giorgio Moroder, John Morales, Jody Watley and Thelma Houston.
The first disc takes you way back to the very start of what would become DISCO... Music from Motown and Philly by acts like O'Jays, the Temptations, Love Unlimited Orchestra, Isaac Hayes and Manu Dibango's "Soul Makossa", a track often credited as one of the fist Disco songs.
The second CD focuses on the years of '74-'76. The Disco dance phenomenon has started with tracks like Van McCoy's "the Hustle", but the Trammps, Tavares, Vicki Sue Robinson, the Originals and the crowned Queen of Disco Gloria Gaynor, among others, all made sure we kept moving to the Disco beats.
In the third CD Chic wants us to continue to "Dance, Dance, Dance" and we get fabulous hits from acts like First Choice, Thelma Houston, Sylvester and Grace Jones. But we also get a share of Euro Disco from people like Cerrone, Voyage, Alec R Costandinos and of course Giorgio Moroder and his most famous vocalist Donna Summer.
Last, but not least, we get 'Ready for the 80s' with late '70s classics as Dan Hartman's "Relight My Fire", here in the 12" version with its superb instrumental "Vertigo" intro, along with fantastic tracks by Shalamar, Diana Ross, Gino Soccio, Cher, Coffee, Tamiko Jones, Pattie Brooks and many others.
This is a MUST HAVE for any Disco lover, as it sure will make you "Rock Your Baby" and "Get Down Tonight"!

There have been Bee Gees compilations before, but this really is 'the Ultimate' one as it feature 40 Hit songs and 18 videos... It's all their wonderful music in one collection and one is constantly reminded of how many great songs they've released over their half century in the spotlight.
The first song of the first CD sends out a clear message - "You Should Be Dancing", and that CD give you ALL the more uptempo highlights of the Bee Gees long career, incl. the Saturday Night Fever tracks and other hits. Bob Blank - the Blank Generation Blank Tapes NYC 1975-1987
[Strut STRUT053CD]
Producer Bob Blank owned the Blank Tape Studio and in this compilation we'll find just a very few of the classic works that came out of Bob's Manhattan studio.
Famous remixer John Morales did lots of his work at Blank Tape Studio, often in projects together with writer/producer Patrick Adams.
It was here Walter Gibbons made his famous remix of Gladys Knight's "It's A Better Than Good Time" (which of course is on the CD) and Bob tells in the notes about how it came about.
This compilation contains everything from Jazzy grooves to Latin vibes, Funky beats with orchestral New Wave and pure DISCO... It could easily had been called the Blank Spectrum!
The CD is compiled and have liner notes by authors Bill Brewster & Frank Broughton, who also wrote the book 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life' (among others).

Capitol Disco
[EMI/Stateside 0946 395031 2 4]
This CD include various tracks from the Capitol archives as selected by Bill Brewster.
Personally I'm not sure it the CD should be called Capitol Disco, as I think it spans from Disco and Funk, to mostly Soul. But again, the term "Disco" is quite wide and can easily include several of these early 70's tunes as well.
But this is not your average Disco compilation and I would probably have expected more classic "hits" in this CD, as it features several great acts like Tavares, Ashford & Simpson and Diana Ross, along with A Taste Of Honey, T-Connection, Mystic Merlin and others.
The tracks that stands out for me are for example "Save Your Love For Me" by Donna Washington, "We All Need Love" - Troiano, Diana Ross' work out in "Work That Body", "Street Corner" by Ashford & Simpson among others, but I'm sure you'll find your own favorites among the tracks.
It will make you "Work That Body" !!!

Change Reach For The Sky Anthology
[Groove Line GLRCDXD0003]
28 fantastic songs from Italy's answer to Chic...
Change was a group created by Jacques Fred Petrus and Mauro Malavasi and they released one album a year between 1980 and 1985, all with stylish and tight arrangement besides the awesome vocals from some of the top artists of the era, including Jocelyn Brown, Luther Vandross, Diva Gray, Deborah Cooper and others.
The tracks on this CD set are chronologically presented from each of their 6 albums and include all the hits that found their way to the charts in either the US and/or the UK. All songs carefully remastered and comes in their original 12 inch or album versions, all for your listening pleasure.
Change is really one of my own personal all-time favorite groups and this double CD just delivers all the highlights from their musical treasure chest. Just as it opens up with "A Lover's Holiday" with Jocelyn on vocals and in the Jim Burgess 12" version, followed by "the Glow Of Love" with Luther on vocals... Can it get any better? Then things just move on from there.
This is really "Heaven Of My Life" as they sing. The hits just pile up with songs like; "Paradise", "the Very Best In You", "This Is Your Time", "Change Of Heart", "Let's Go Together", just to mention a few...
The label also throw in a bonus track; "It's A Girls Affair" in a exclusive remix by Disco remixer supremo Mike Maurro, who lifts it to new heights.
It is really a "Magical Night" for me to listen to this CD and I'm sure you'll feel the same.
"This Is Your Time" to discover Change if you haven't already, if you already know them - then just "Keep On It" and rediscover the greatness of this band which sadly never got all the recognition they really deserved.
It will be a "Mutual Attraction", so 'Reach for the sky' and BUY THIS NOW!

D-Funk - Funk, Disco & Boogie Grooves From Germany 1972-2002
[Marina MA 74]
The label behind the Disco Deutchland Disco compilation is back with another wicked German Funk, Disco & Boogie grooves collection. Put in some Jazzy vibes and just a touch of Rap/Hip-Hop and you've got this compilation.
It's kind of an absurd compilation, but in a good way. Marina Records put together music from 3 decades, from 1972 to 2002 and it's lots of great stuff we non-germans ever heard before.
For example the Boney M track "Dancing In The Streets" is a forgotten gem and it's followed by a instrumental Disco Orchestra track called "Cherry Blossom" when translated, but "Kirschblte" in german.
There's also the hit "14 Tage", a track that "Pinky" Velazquez of Vanguard Records licenced to do a english version of. And you get to hear a very different version of "Low Rider".
"Dispo Funk" by Zatopek is like a combination of Bad Manners and Madness mixed with a touch of Gypsy music - but on speed... Wicked and enjoyable!
A doze of Cosmic 'Cerrone Disco' is brought to us by Ganymed in "Future World", James Last gives us "Bolero'75" which is as far from Ravel's original as anyone can be, but it's great and uplifting. Disco lovers should also check out "Intercontinental Meetings".
Else you'll find some heavy slap-bass Funk beats along with Funky-House and organ driven tunes!
It's rough, different and great!
Check it out to form your own opinion!

Stop Talking Bull - Discotizer & Supermax
Dancing In The Streets - Boney M.
Kirschblte - Veronika Fischer & Band
Sweatmajor - Cheeseslider

Disco: A Fine Selection of Independent Disco, Modern Soul and Boogie 1978-82
[SoulJazz SJR CD289]
This is the CD that accompany the book with the same name (as seen below).
The 360-page deluxe 12" x 12" book includes close to 3000 Disco covers, sadly the CD can't cover it all, but Disco Patrick has selected a wonderful set of classic Disco tunes which are not found on your average Disco collection CD's.
First out is the Fantastic Aleems feat. Calebur's track "Hooked On Your Love", here in a John Morales remix. (Calebur is actually an alias for singer supreme Leroy Burgess, and even Luther Vandross is to be heard on background vocals.) From that start the great music just keeps coming... From the Miami Disco classic "Superfunk" with it's latin influences, over to "That's Hot", which is exactly just what it called! That one is followed by the always amazingly great 10 minutes "the River Drive" by Jupiter Beyond and Sunburst Band's "the Easton Assassin" - singing about the boxing champ Larry Holmes. The music takes us over to the Caribbean and to "Trinidad", with steel drums and all. Then it's time for a personal favorite; Sparkle's "Disco Madness" before we get more 'Syn Drums' in the more Funky "Sweet Lady" until Wayne Ford closes the first CD with "Dance To The Music Freakout".
The second CD starts out by stating "You Know What I Like" (with uncredited vocals of Leroy Burgess) and that feeling moves through the subsequent tracks... "Movin' To The Beat" is another great track by the Fantastic Aleems and it followed by Something Extra's "Sexy Lady" and then "Get Up (Let's Rock)". Then it's time to get on the "Skateboard" and swirl around to the beats of Chemistry. Cirt Gill has then decided it's time to "Turn This Disco Out", before we get some more modern Soul kind of Disco from 'Sugar Bear' Johnson. Retta Young sings beautifully in "My Man Is On His Way" and the Imperials ties on the roller skates and hit the floor with their "Fast Freddie the Roller Disco King". The Disco Bossa Nova track "Wave" completes the track listing of this great collection of tracks.
The CD really sets the right mood for any Disco lover enjoying the book; Disco: An Encyclopedic Guide to the Cover Art of Disco Records.
Buy them BOTH... The Book and the CD!

This is the second CD release that accompanies the book with the same name (as found below).
The 360-page deluxe 12" x 12" book includes close to 3000 Disco covers, sadly the CD's can't cover it all, but Disco Patrick has once again selected a wonderful set of classic Disco tunes which are not found on your average Disco collection CD's.
19 "new" great tracks taking you on a musical excursion through pure Disco, Funky beats and Intergalactic Cosmic trips.
Just as Dunn Pearson Jr. states in the first CD, DiscoPatrick wants you to "Groove On Down". Just listening at an act like High Frequency (the Aleem brothers together with the voice of Leroy Burgess) kind of give you the essence of the era. Why not "Rock-A-Freak" before taking it down a bit in a "Disco Strut". The Shades Of Love wants you to "Come Inside" before enjoying some "Micro Wave Boogie" or "Cosmic Funk"...
By the time you put on CD 2 Jahneen has already understand that "Everybody's Dancin'. "Get Down Boy" shouts Paper Doll. "I Feel Like Love" when hearing tracks from Ripple and Panache, feels like going on a "Moon Ride" and just "Strut On".
If you wonder "What Can I Do To Make You Dance", I'll just say "Pay The Price" and buy this CD...
Buy both CD's and the Book!

Disco Discharge. Gay Disco & Hi NRG
[Harmless HURTCD086]
Time for the fourth release in Disco Discharge series, this time Harmless let's us enter the gay and uptempo scene of dance music with their Gay Disco & Hi NRG CD.
The beat is pumpin' and the sexual undertones are more explicit, but you just can't sit still to this uplifting and sweaty genre of Dance music history. Becuase it IS what it's called - High Energy.
The King of Hi NRG was undoubtedly Bobby O who is represented here through his acts; the Flirts, Oh Romeo and Free Enterprise.
Another of the gay scene's signature acts, Boys Town Gang is featured twice while Liza Minelli claims she's "Losing My mind" and Macho is chanting out "I'm A Man" (like someone would doubt that when hearing those butch male vocals).
Regardless if you're gay or not, you'll enjoy the tracks of this CD, which brings you back to the late 70's and up to the mid 80's (and beyond) through acts as; Fun Fun, Deodato, Ken Laszlo, Kano, Laura Branigan and others.
It's Boys Town music at its best!

Disco Recharge. Change - the Glow Of Love / Miracles
[Harmless DRCCDX001]
WOW... One of the best albums ever made from one of the finest groups is now available in the Disco Recharge series...
Change's LP the Glow Of Love is one of my all-time favorite albums with 6 wonderful fantastic tracks and to add more excitement the vocals are by Diva supreme; Jocelyn Brown and the extraordinary Luther Vandross.
There's not one dull moment of the whole first album and the music put together and produced by Mauro Malavsi, Davide Romani and Jaques Fred Petrus is just perfection.
The groups second album - Miracles - is another fantastic album which continues where the Glow Of Love left off and is in the same vein of the Disco-Funk written and produced by Nile & Bernard of Chic.
Just the start of the album with the brilliant "Paradise" sets the tone and follows by hits like "Hold Tight" and the title track.
The Mixes CD give you all the different versions, from single versions to full length 12" versions.

Disco Recharge. Voyage - 3
[Harmless DRCCDX006]
For the first time Voyage's third album, just called 3 from 1980 is available on CD.
It includes the underground Disco classic "I Love You Dancer", which is featured in the original LP version as well as in its instrumental, 12" and 7" versions.
The single release prior to the album was "I Don't Want To Fall In Love Again" and was also a hit.
Despite the 'death of Disco' the band continued their Space-Disco, even though a little more Rock/Pop influences can be heard in for example "Music, Music" and "I'm Only Human".

Disco Recharge. Voyage - One Step Higher
[Harmless DRCCDX008]
This is the first time Voyage's 1982 album One Step Higher is available on CD.
In this album, this legendary European Disco group is taking their music 'back to basics' and back to the Disco sound we're used to hear from them with wonderful vocals, exotical rhythms and danceable beats.
Besides the very Funky title track Disco fans will enjoy tracks like "Let's Get Started" which makes you think you're listening to one of their first albums. "I Surrender", "Come And Get It" and "Nowhere To Hide" are all groovy Disco gems. "Magic In The Groove" includes Caribbean steel drums, while "Follow The Brightest Star" is a Funky Jazz number with a driving Disco beat.
As a fantastic bonus the second CD is packed with TV mixes, Alternative mixes, 12" and 7" versions, along with a previously unreleased track.
Let's take things "One Step Higher" and enjoy the "Magic In The Groove"!

Ben Liebrand has done it again... The spooky thing is that it feels like he's been taking all the tracks right from my own 12" inch collection. I think I own like every track that's on there.
As always all tracks come in their 12" inch or full length version and Ben manages to put together an interesting mix of music - from pure Disco, to Ni-NRG, Funk and Electro.
Just the fact of finally getting one of my all-time favorite tracks, the Jellybean remix of Peter Brown's "They Only Come Out At Night" on CD was a pleasure to me.
But just as the first CD starts out... Michael Jackson, WAR, A Taste Of Honey... It's like a 'Battle of the Hits' as it continues with acts and songs like "Le Freak" [Chic], "Spank" by Jimmy "Bo" Horne, "He's the Greatest Dancer", "Stay the Night" and others...
The second CD contiues with gems from Grace Jones, Change, B.B. & Q. Band, Aretha Franklin, Deodato, Earth, Wind & Fire, Jacksons and the Giorgio Morder penned Three Degrees classic "the Runner" (plus more).
Hi-NRG rules CD 3, first out the original Bobby O version of Pet Shop Boys's "West End Girls", followed by several other Bobby O acts like; the Flirts, Divine and himself. Another personal favorite is "San Salvador" by Azoto.
CD 4 gives you a mix of everything from the B-Boy classic "Trommeltanz (Din Da Da)" by George Krantz, classic Disco a la Pointer Sisters, Quincy Jones and G.Q., 80's dance classics like "White Horse" by Laidback and "History" by MaiTai over to Funky tracks by Roy Ayers and UK funkers - Level 42.

So just that start blows you away, but it doesn't stop there... You'll get tracks from Grace Jones, Bobby Thurston (one of two in this release), Tina Turner, Unique and Imagination's classy "Music & Lights", which I still recall hearing first on Radio Luxemburg way back when it was released.
Second CD have fantastic tracks like "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen, "War Dance" by Kebekelektrik and Unlimited Touch's "I Hear Music In The Streets". You'll also get som B-Boy Street Music like Man Parrish's "Hip Hop Be Bop" and Shannon's "Give Me Tonight" (in it's Dub Version) and others.
On the third CD you get Bobby Thurston's "Check Out The Groove" and "Move On Up" by Destination (the Disco version of the Curtis Mayfield classic). Geraldine Hunt hits it off with "Can't Fake The Feeling" and other hits from Sylvester, Carol Williams, Silvetti, Rod and MECO.
Fourth CD strikes out with "Body Music" by the Strikers, D-Train, the Bombers, Bruni Pagan, Peech Boys and my all-time favorite "Got To Have Loving" by Don Ray.

House Masters Joey Negro
[Defected HOMAS22CD]
Defected gives us another great collection in their House Masters series - this time by Joey Negro (Dave Lee's most well-known pseudonym).
In this double CD we get some of his highlights, even though it's kind of impossible to fit a 25+ years career onto two CD's.
We get much of his own work under several of his monikers, along with remixes he has made for others. Among the latter is his remix of "Backfired" by Masters At Work feat. India and his remixes of the classic Disco tracks "Dancin' & Prancin'" by Candido and the Patrice Rushen gem "Haven't You Heard".
It's a pure pleasure listening to this album and what struck you is how damn good it is. It's really no surprise Defected has chosen to dub him 'One of the World's Leading Promonents of Disco-inspired House'. I really haven't got much wore words - you just have to listen for yourself to get what I'm trying to say...

the Men In The Glass Booth Ground breaking re-edits and remixes by the Disco era's most influential DJ's - Compiled by Al Kent
[BBE Disco BBE191CCD]
A triple CD set release with many acetate re-edits and remixes, versions that these DJ legends cut up on reel to reel to make their own re-edit in order to work out their own clubs. These are the versions they played themselves, versions that were not always publicly released but occasionally found their way onto a limited number of acetate copies, as sometimes sold at Downtown Records in New York City.
In this collection of classy Disco tracks you'll hear re-edits and remixes from people like John Luongo, Walter Gibbons, Rick Gianatos, Jay Negron, Jim Burgess, John Morales, Tom Savarese, Bobby "DJ" Guttadaro, Tee Scott, John "Jellybean" Benitez and others...
It's 30 great tracks from the height of the Disco era and it's impossible to mention one track and not another, so I'll not even go there. But it's a pure joy to just let the music play and hearing music from SalSoul Records acts, which are prominently featured within the collection. Another highlight is the full 12:04 Walter Gibbons remix of Glady's Knight & the Pips' "It's A Better Than Good Time", a version which were later re-edited and shortened for a Buddah Records Canadian only 12" release - a record that you have to pay top money to get hold of a copy of...
Besides it comes with a 40-pages booklet with the history and insight on the remixers, versions and things around it. Very interesting read to say the least...
2017 couldn't have started better than this... Hope BBE Disco has more of these kind of releases up their sleeve for the year! Then it will be a fantastic year!

Philadelphia International Classics - the Tom Moulton Remixes
[Harmless HURTXCD 112]
The definition of Perfect just got even Better than PERFECT...
Because the music coming out of the Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia during the 1970's is probably the most perfect songs ever, most produced by Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff or the trio of Ron Baker, Norman Harris & Earl Young.
But there were also this New York guy who knew just what the dancers and DJ's wanted, he was the guy with a Midas touch who turned these tunes into extended Disco orgies; namely Tom Moulton.
Originally there was a double album released in 1977 called Philadelphia Classics which featured 8 of Tom's greatest mixes for Philly Int'l Records. Now all those mixes are available on this CD; MFSB's "Love Is The Message" and "T.S.O.P - The Sound Of Philadelphia" (feat. The Three Degrees), "Dirty Ol' Man" by The Three Degrees, The O'Jays equally wonderful "I Love Music" and "Love Train", Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes' "Don't Leave Me This Way" and "Bad Luck" as well as "I'll Always Love My Mama" by The Intruders.
Featured here are also 7 other hard to find mixes which holds the "A Tom Moulton Mix" quality trademark; 4 tracks by the Trammps; "Love Epidemic", "Where Do We Go From Here", "Trusting Heart" and "Trammps Disco Theme/Zing Went The Strings", 12 minutes of "The Love I Lost" by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, People's Choice's Funky "Do It Any Way You Wanna" and "Slow Motion" by Johnny Williams.
But to top things off, Tom Moulton has laid his skilled hands on no less than 16 other classic tracks out of the Philly catalog and remixed them into perfection just for this release; The O'Jays' "Back Stabbers" and (one of my personal favorites) "This Time Baby", The Intruder's "(Win, Place or Show) She's A Winner", "The Whole Town's Talking" by Billy Paul, "The Devil Made Me Do It" by Robert Upchurch, The Three Degrees' "Year Of Decision" and "When Will I See You Again", "Let's Groove" and "Where Will You Go When The Party's Over" by Archie Bell & The Drells, the fantastic "Jam Jam Jam (All Night Long)" by People's Choice (a track I actually asked Tom about in my interview way back, I'm so happy to finally get a long Tom Moulton mix of it), Lou Rawls' "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" and "See You When I Git There", "I Don t Love You Anymore" by Teddy Pendergrass, The Futures' "Party Time Man", Jean Carn's "My Love Don't Come Easy" and The Jones Girls' "Nights Over Egypt".
All these superb tracks are presented in their chronological order and again - they've all been been remixed to complete perfection by the Maestro himself, he has really managed to get them Better than how Perfect they already were...
If you would only buy one CD this year - then look no further - THIS IS IT = BUY IT NOW!

the Real Sound of Chicago - Underground Disco from the Windy City Compiled by Mr Peabody Records
[BBE 122CCD]
When someone mentions Chicago and Music in the same sentence, most of us will think about pumping House music...
But this release have totally changed that impression for me. This is a wonderful Disco compilation, far from the House sound I was expecting when putting the first CD into the player.
This is pure Disco, but not as agressive as the NYC Disco we're more used to hear. The Chicago sound has more Soul influences and it's really a feel-good compilation the guys behind Mr Peabody Records has created for us.
Don't think I ever heard any of the tracks before, but this release has become a favorite already.
You better check this out for yourself, because from now on THIS is the kind of music I'll associate with Chicago.

Disco: The Bill Bernstein Photographs
[Reel Art Press]
Photographs by Bill Bernstein.

Bill Bernstein was sent to the legendary Studio 54 by the Village Voice in order to cover President Carter's mothers' birthday party. From that moment on he became one of the few photographers who captured the Disco scene live as it happened in all of the hottest New York clubs like; Paradise Garage, Xenon, the Funhouse, Le Clique, Electric Circus, Hurrah, GG's Barnum Room and many other places.
Together with Reel Art Press some of Bill's fantastic pictures have been gathered for this book. It captures the atmosphere of these clubs and the club goers along with documenting the decadence, energy and joy of the emerging Disco movement.
The book is not about celebrities, even though some are found here, it's all about the people and their interaction on and around the dance floor. A time warp right back to the last years of the 70's when life inside the clubs was an extravagant party and everything negative was left outside the door - except for what got captured on Bill's photo negatives. Thanks to them we now get to enjoy the Disco era all over again...
Buy this book, put on a good Disco record and just feel the vibe of a different time...

Disco Patrick Presents: the Bootleg Guide to Disco Acetates, Funk, Rap and Disco Medleys
[Disco Patrick Press]
Written by Disco Patrick and Patrick Vogt.

WOW! That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I got my copy of this book and it was not only because I got a dedication in it by John Morales, who is also prominently featured for his early Sunshine Sound acetate remixes.
No, what really struck me was the wealth of information and knowledge Disco Patrick has about all these acetate pressings. This is stuff that might just have been pressed in a very few copies and Disco Patrick know most of them and everything about the pressing plants and so on... Just AMAZING!
I actually couldn't put the book down when I got it. Besides all the interesting and intriguing information the book is also richly featured with pictures of most of the releases and other exciting photos. Among things there's a section with flyers and Disco related paper ad's and similar that will keep any Disco-Maniac happy...
There are also listings of various medleys where the author even can name many of the people involved in creating them, plus that many of these mentioned mixes have most of the included tracks listed.
So if you like to know more about the early Disco music scene and Disco medleys - then this is you new Bible!
It's also printed on thick, high quality, glossy paper that will let you enjoy this book for years.

Studio 54
[Max Strom]
Photographs by Hasse Persson.

The Swede Hasse Persson spent around hundred nights at Studio 54 between 1977 and 1980. With his camera at hand and with generous access to the club he took loads of pictures of celebrities, party people and others standing out.
You will find a bunch of celebrities captured on film by Hasse in the book, people like Halson, Andy Warhol, Calvin Klein, Brooke Shields and others. But that's not what this book is all about. Instead Hasse has captured the vibrant atmosphere of the dance floor with all its lights, sweat, tears and ever moving bodies.
With the photographers' special techniques he manages to bring extra life and new dimensions into his pictures.
This is not just a documentation of an era or a club, this is just so much more. This is pure art.
You should get this book for its mesmerizing impression of being there dancing among the other dancers to the pumping Disco sounds in which was probably the most legendary club ever existing.
Enjoy Hasse's Studio 54...

the 'Chic - Live At Budokan' was recorded in Japan in April of 1996. This was the last show Bernard Edwards performed, as he died in his hotel room the very same night.
The performances are superb, the band is just so tight and Bernard's bass playing is awesome together with the way Nile handles his guitar.
You'll also get to see Sister Sledge and Slash performing with the band.
Besides the great show, there's also bonus material with this release, incl. commentary by Nile, a tribute to Bernard and an audio CD from the concert (which is not the same as the previously released 'Live at the Budokan' CD).

Finally this classic Disco movie is made available on DVD. This movie was a co-production of Casablanca and Motown and feature great Disco music from Love and Kisses (who sings the title track), Commodores, Diana Ross, Pattie Brooks, Thelma Houston and (of course) Donna Summer, who sings the Oscar & Golden Globe Award winning 'Best Original Song' - "Last Dance".
Casablanca's owner, Neil Bogart, was the executive producer of this comedy which is starring upcoming actors like Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park) and Debra Winger (An Officer and A Gentleman) along with Valerie Landsburg (Doris in the TV-series Fame), Commodores (as themselves), Paul Jabara (singer/songwriter of many Casablanca hits, incl. "Last Dance") and Donna Summer as singer Nicole Sims.
The story is centered around a Friday night at this new hot L.A. Disco 'the Zoo'. the Club will have a big dance contest and the Commodores will perform live - if their roadie ever turns up with their instruments and equipment. Nicole (Donna) will try almost anything to get DJ Bobby Speed to let her sing for the audience, which she eventually succeeds. Else there's dating, dancing, drinking, drugging - yes all elements you could expect on a Friday night at the Disco.
It's kind of a simple but yet funny movie, and it's awesome to revive the clothing and hairstyles while listening to the pumping Disco beats.
There's also lots of wonderful quotes like;
Marv 'the Leatherman' Gomez: "Dancing. Everything else is bullshit!"
Frannie: "Who cares about that dumb old concert. That's for kids. We're disco queens now."
Dave: "Oh God, you've been reading Cosmopolitan again."
Don't forget to check out the Movie Soundtrack as well...
Thank God, now you can have Friday every day!
