The hardest to mix are the ones I don't have yet...they are the hardest.
In reality the hardest to mix are the ones with the most vocals and busy instrumentation and changing BPMs at the start of the song.
Examples of this are: "WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE" - The Trammps "DOCTOR LOVE" - First Choice and "LOS CONQUISTADORES CHOCOLATES" - Johnny Hammond
Even "DISCO PARTY" by The Trammps. It changes beats in the beginning.

CHULO!! Great, really a great thread you started here my friend. This one stays for sure!
As for me. Mixing songs that change speeds are hardest. Some BRAINSTORM songs were torture. "Hot For You" specifically went up and down in beats alot. Songs without a consistent drum beat are hard too. As for remixing. Songs that feature mostly vocals are tough. Example, STAY WITH ME TONIGHT needed a few outstanding breaks in them. But that never stopped me from going for it. How about you?

all of them.
i can't mix as i have 2 left hands.
those that can mix seemlessly i have a lot of respect for.to some it's having a bit of fun,to others it's a science.if it works on the dance floor then great stuff.
as for me,i'll stick to my sm-58 shure mic & my north and south.

I think the hardest song for a long mix is Johnny Hammond's ''Los Conquistadores Chocolates''.The drummer was on acid for sure!!!

For me, there are several..."Night Rider" by Venus Dodson, "The Beat Goes On" by Ripple, "Be Thankful For What You've Got" by William DeVaughn, "Touch Me In The Morning" by Marlena Shaw...and that's not all.

Going off on a bit of a tangent with this, so excuse me but thought I would mention that I am going to see Marlena Shaw in concert over here in the UK in Fb 09..Can't wait as she is one of my musical heroe's..

I'm jealous. I've been a big fan forever. Never had the chance to see her live. I'm sure it will be a memorable night.
BTW...For me, her "Sweet Beginnings" was also extremely tough to blend.

John I never could mix this song from the start, the bpm changing every 10 seconds so I have to use 2 copies and mix it from the break!

George-I tried to mix from the top a few times. It was so tough...The quicker the crossfade, the better it worked. I ultimately resigned to two copies as well. But I just loved that moment at the top of the song when the strings come in for the first time. It gave the room a nice lift.

Lets go back, to ,what was it, 76 or 77. Thelma Houston, "Don't Leave Me This Way" was not easy to mix at all. Sure we played tricks with it. But on it's own, with just another record, it was a royal pain in the ass! What did you do??

Pete-How could I forget that one?!? Very tough also. On rare occasion I would just play it from the top our of something cold. Other times I blend it out of smething with a straight kick drum...for example, sneak it up and over out of the fading piano break of Beautiful Bend "Make That Feeling Come Again" (slowed down a bit)

Ed"The Worm" Rothstein of Binghampton's Ferry Boat, used to BLEND "Date With The Rain" on the break of "Don't Leave Me This way". I have used Crown Heights Affair there, John Davis too. But it was a pain!!

I don't know, sometimes the only solution is to have the songs in double copies, mix them from the break and after bring them from the beginning without to destroy the melody of the song with all this BPM changing!
