I just love all this TRUTH :D :D :D
Yes Pete ''Maestro''.That's the title of this DVD.Is about no Maestros. If you believe what they show and talk about ,there's no disco history.
Jim Burgess,Walter Gibbons,John Ceglia,Roy Thode, Tom Savarese,Robbie Leslie,Shep Pettibone,Richie Rivera,Ray "Pinky" Velazquez,Richie Kakzor,Alan Dodd,Bobby Viteritti,Hippie Torrales,Warren Gluck,Dan (Pooch) Pucciarelli,Alan Grohlke,Aldo Marin,Tony Humphries are fantastic persons, illusions, ghosts that never been in New York.Even you and Jay!All of you,you were working in another town.Because there are only two people that been the real DJs in NYC: Larry Levan and David Mancuso,no one else!!!!!!!!
Don’t believe the hype.Studio 54 is a stupid lie like Infinity,12West,Saint,Limelight,Underground,Bonds,all these places never exist. There was just the Loft and the Paradise Garage. These are the NYC Disco History.
The philosophy is that you don’t have to mix, just shake your hands above the Bozak like a clown and
It’s OK,don’t disturb the dancers with mixing, just let all the record to play,go to the bathroom for whatever
And when the record finish put the next one, relax and listen the no-Maestros!
This film is the biggest BS thing I saw in all my life,I could give all my record collection to have a chance to
throw some tones of rotten tomatoes to the director!

I know that Jay!I just reading the ''thanks to'' comments from ''Disco Gold'' Volume 2 Scepter album from 1975,they have your name in!!!Other djs that I know:Tony Gioe,Bobby DJ Cuttadaro,Frank Hullihan,Mike Lewis,Danae Jacovidis,John Luongo,Jimmy Steward,Joey Madonia,Jim Evangelista,Joseph Bonfiglio,Paul Casella,Steve D'Acquisto,Michael Cappello,Joe Palminteri and so many more!
This is the truth and the real disco history and not BS like Maestro. If you want to make a film about LL it's OK but tell the TRUTH.Because not everyone is stupid. There's no djs that idolized people that can't mix and Maestro is like a film about restaurants with heroes chefs that don't know how to cook, that kind of tragedy

LOL- Why don't you tell us how you really feel!!! LOL-- Now George, you know it was me who posted the thread, "Was He All That". I questioned Larry Levan's mixing skills from day one. Old School deejay tricks made him a legend, as well as great music selection. Everything else was smoke & mirrors. A nice way of saying BS I guess! Sound effects, movie dialogue, talking or rapping are good ways of covering a segue or mix, that will be horrendous or impossible! It is especially true, if the music being played is the latest & greatest. But, New York City, and I grew up there, is all about hype. Larry, this "film", the guys whose idea it was in the first place. They all are "propaganda" meant to fool & deceive the masses. And like most bull, "if the legend is better then the history, print the legend". American History 101- (Thanks to David Walh for the line!!)

Best thing about Maestro was the fact that it captured an interview with Francis Grasso before his passing.

PETE'S NOTE:: Now there was a great deejay!!

I can't waste my time with these BS.No more documents from idiots that have nothing to do with Clubs and disco music. No more ''respect'' for people that don't use a mixer (because they don't know how to mix) for a
better sound quality. No ''respect'' for someone that was ten years behind the decks and never could mix because he was very high, because he forget about it,because he was playing the same record 10 times in a row.
No ''respect'' for people that never been DJs,never mix, just doin good PRs,''favors'' and promotion for record companies and saying lies, like ''I don't have to mix,I just playing with the feeling'',''I am creating a story with the words of the songs and sending a message'',''I am taking you into a musical journey''   Enough with all these lies.
And if someone wants to make a film about Disco and DJs is easy to find normal persons with two arms and two ears that know what this thing is about it!People that know what is the Technics turntables and why
a dj use it and don't use Thorens antics in 1987,people that don't have any problem to use any kind of mixer and don't stuck with pre1976 knowledge, people that understand what a pitch control is and how someone
use it!
No ''respect'' for these tragic persons that destroy the truth, the history and the progression of the profesional DJ with all these hype BS that put in articles, books and films. This is the disco History with REAL music, artists,DJs,remixers, clubs and not your fake opinions and the favors for your jukebox-skills friends!!!

George, I am cracking up my friend. It is truth you speak. But the way you put it that has me rolling on the ground!! I am laughing very hard at this post. I think we understand you fully!! LOL Like I said, "Tricks" were old school. pre 1977. Afterwards, if you used tricks, it was usually that you were lazy, and did not continue the natural development of things! So I too laugh at BS thrown out there. But maybe not as angry as you!! LOL

In reponse to Dancer's posts....

What passion George...I love to see that in people..the forum is a better place with people like you, that have good strong constructive criticisim and are'nt affraid to share there views with the world....
It seems once again the Soul-Boy is gonna have to eat another f***ing slice of humble pie! (gonna put on about 20lbs at this rate). When I first came to this site, I was a big fan of LL. I too was guilty of being carried along on the wave of hype and proaganda without even realising it at the time. Then this site gave me my rebirth regarding LL. People like Dancer & Pete stuck to there guns and told it like it was. Not just ranting on about it but by giving us concrete evidence and hard facts for all to see and hear. I now look back at my earlier posts and see how my support for LL was misguided and it is a little embarrissing to say the least. Hey! but f**k it..we live and learn. I love this site, you get an education every day.
....JAYSKI...where you at ?...gotta know if your opinion of the man has been swayed of late.....sing brother sing!

It's all about the music for me. I have been in Paradise Garage for only 2 hrs total in early 1980. I wasn't impressed with the mixing--I thought he was high.
It was 6:30am.
But I was impressed, very impressed with the music.
That night I first heard,
"WHY LEAVE US ALONE" by 5 Special (Rick Gianatos Remix),
"DOUBLE CROSS" the LL remix, (which was not that different at all from the original), and
"CHECK OUT THE GROOVE" by Bobby Thurston.

I left the club wanting more of that music!!!!
I would get those remixes when they were released, but I wanted them NOW!!!
I then started to see his name on many of the songs I really liked.
Jocelyn Brown/Inner Life--Gwen Guthrie--Instant Funk--Jimmy Ross--Taana Gardner--Sylvester--Peech Boys---I thought he was a Remix whizz---UNTIL...

I was schooled to the truth by Dancer & others on the site.
I didn't want to listen to Pete & his rants because that was only an opinion; he was doing some investigating himself.

But Dancer showed me some HARD proof;
an article about Walter Gibbons and the Instant Funk remix.
AND the best proof a DJ can have:
The 'ORIGINAL' versions, pre-remix of some of those songs that I loved.
And it comes to light that he changed very little if anything.
I would have loved the songs ANYWAY!!!!

Not to take anything away from LL but a legend?? nope.
Some of those DJs that are listed above in Dancers 2 posts---yes!!!!

I am so wild about these BS because I became 40 years old to listen a set of Jim Burgess or John Ceglia but these ''media'' the last 15 years have let me know even the colour of LL's underwear!!!
I mean I have a big passion to know everything about the disco years, the music, the who is who of these times, the DJs,the clubs....So it's not fair when you searching for the truth,to feed you shit.Look for an example:
www.tech-noir.com/disco/index.html.It's an article from 1983 that everybody recycling for the last 25 years. And by far they telling many lies. That's why I feel so angry
We didn't knew anything about Infinity,12West,Saint,Copacabana,Burgess,''Pinky'',Ceglia,Bobby V,Roy Thode in Europe. We didn't have a clue about the Miami disco scene, the Chicago disco scene,NOTHING!!!!
The only informations was articles like that. It's not fair and not so innocent!!!They making trades and idols for money(compilations, books, films and dj bookings)That's businnes for them.
What about us that we want to know the TRUTH?
