Hi Guys and Gals !
Just wanted to know which songs you prefer opening up a Disco night with...
All you DJ's probably have like some favorite Disco tune you think is perfect to start out with, right ?!
I love to open up with Earth, Wind & Fire's "In The Stone" (and a few others), but it would be exciting to hear which your favorites are...
So hit us with you best shots...
Disco-on !

This can be very funny as you will see tomorrow or latest Monday, July 7th. I opened with something different all the time, the key word being DIFFERENT!! Not what you would expect!! Rarely a DISCO song, but something to get everyones attention. Then, depending on the amount of people there, I could get into DISCO right away, or slowly build up the momentum of the night. Always different, every night!-- Pete

I used many songs, usually a slower, mellower 100 BPM song like STREETLIFE, or DO YOU WANT TO GET FUNKY WITH ME.

I've used the old classical Spartacus ballet by Aram Khachaturian and run that into the disco version called "We Are One" from the soundtrack of "Galigula". These days, I often spin stuff from Italian gabardine cop films like "Mark Il Poliziotto" or eurosleaze epics like "L'Histoire D'O" and then go into similar sounding midtempo 1977 disco tunes by Albatros, Corn Flakes or Nico Fidenco. 1977 was a very good year for music resembling soft core porn soundtracks wasn't it? African tribal drum records work nicely with tracks like "Nessa" by Max B, too. I've also done some mixing between the painful Diamanda Galas Lithanies for the Damned or whatever they are called, the albums filled with anguished lamenting and sudden earpiercing screams, and Orff's Carmina Burana. Then I go into some religious organ music and switch into "Mefisto" or some other cheesy eurodisco tune with a moaning female voice. Grace Jones's "Suffer" and "Love On The Beat" by Serge Gainsbourg will also do the trick, as will "Sado Maso Disco" by Must. Hell, there could even be a nun gone awol in disquise in the audience.

Liked to feed off the crowd.I would make an effort to link records by theme or story. Not always possible but great when people got the message....

Some deejays loved to start strong, going for the jugular right away. Starting in the 130 BPM right away. Others eased their way up. Some like discobone and me, let the crowd dictate! You ever make the mistake, and start where the crowd didn't want to start. Say you go 120 BPM, they want 135 bpm?? What did you do? I personally always gave them what they wanted!!
