Hi,
I have had the chance to write about some of the famous DJ's and Remixers of the Disco era... But I'm sure you think "Why is not this or that DJ/Remixer on this page?"
So, please let me know which DJ's/Remixers you'd like to see in the page and even better - if you have any info on that DJ/Remixer... Then you know where to send the info!!
Together we can make it happen !!
Disco-on !

I'd really like to know more about Shep Pettibone.
It seems hard to find info on him prior to being a top remixer for Kiss FM.....circa 1982
Just found some stuff on Shep & his earlier influences.
http://www.tech-noir.com/disco/shep.html
Enjoy.

This is a trick question. The best?? No such guy, alive! Many big name deejays are considered the "Best". But were they, really? Most got those BIG NAMES because they were at the PRIME Clubs. But they were not the "BEST". The Best probably worked in obscurity his or her whole life, simply mixing and making money for the DISCO itself. Never getting the opportunities that being at the right place at the right time brings. Not having that important "friend" to get you a chance at the top Disco in town. There must be dozens if not hundreds of unheralded deejays that were just as good, just as talented, but not as fortunate as the "Great" Deejays we all hear about. As one who was there, from Day One, the BEST I EVER HEARD MIXING LIVE WITH ACTUAL VINYL is easily JIMMY BURGESS. NO-ONE,NO ONE, comes close or even second. Every other "Big Name" deejay was only that because of where he played, no better then the many old-timers that no-one ever heard of. The BEST, all of us old time DEEJAYS!!

Disco Guy, how about a section on ALL deejays, not simply the star deejays. It could include pictures, stats, history. There are literally hundreds of 70's DISCO deejays still alive. It would be something to honor them, before we all die off like the dinosaurs we are!

Hi Pete,
Good idea actually... Maybe some kind of "short bio" like what I've got in the CLUBS page?! I'll give it a thought as we want "serious" DJ's only and not like any "home DJ". So, we need some kind of verification process in that case, but with some thought we'll probably find some way to do this.

Only "actual Night Club" deejays of course. If I never heard of them, they have to prove their worth. Where there's a will, there's a way. I'm behind you.-Pete

Love when we take time to give PROPS to our fellow deejays. Don't know Ted, but you mentioning him in such high praise makes him awesome in my book! Someone know where he is?? get back to us!

Alex, you mentioned some great songs there. I counted 13 Classics!! Of them, KISS was the most unusual When it came out, I gave it away, or threw it away. It was a ROCK song from my perspective. Never played it, but it went on to become a CLASSIC. I missed the boat on that one. No-ones perfect!

Anyone ever hear of JIMMY E DISCO? He was a Disco deejay in the 70's. He played a lot of Miami's great clubs, including the last Roller-Disco, TONY'S FISH MARKET. He eventually opened his own clubs. Anyone know of him?

Ed,
Besides knowing Jimmy, I worked with him on a couple of occasions. I worked with him at TONY'S FISH MARKET for a while, he had the contract, but was busy elsewhere, and had me work for him. He also worked at TOP DRAW when I was a back-up there, I had just moved down from New York, and it was Jimmy who gave me my first Miami gig. He eventually opened EL SALON AZUL and LEVEL in Hialeah!! If I knew how to reach him, I would get him to join us! But I haven't seen him in over 25 years!

The Deejay at the Meadowbrook was Alan Grohlke. He was very good! And he was everywhere too, played all the big Jersey clubs.

Starr Child:
Creation was in West Orange and Flamingo Joe was the first DJ there. He did more "bang" mixing than beat mixing but he sure was good! Also the Meadowbrook was in West Orange as well.
The primary DJ at the Strawberry Patch was a guy named Jerry Lembo and he also wrote the Lembo Letter which was a club oriented newsletter featuring articles on New Jersy and NY Metro clubs and DJ's. I do not know whatever happened to him.
Pete: if you never heard Ted Currier you missed hearing one of the great ones!
Also I was the DJ at the Meadowbrook but it would not be right if I did not give credit to the Medowbrook's first primary DJ...Spanky. He was well ahead of his time and was a very solid club DJ. I am not sure whatever happened to him either.
Alan
