Who did the lead vocals in ANGEL IN MY POCKET by CHANGE? She was awesome!! Sweet sounding voice, she can sing to me anytime. I used to know, but I have forgotten!

Pete,

ANGEL IN MY POCKET by CHANGE - was sung by Jocelyn Shaw - more known as (and one of my favorite singers) - JOCELYN BROWN

I remember her, but on that particular song, she was simply spectacular! When was she a soloist, before or after CHANGE?

The first time I've heard Jocelyn, she was a singer for Musique on "IN THE BUSH" & "KEEP ON JUMPIN".
Jocelyn Brown was the MAIN singer for INNER LIFE. In '79 their big breakout hit was "I'M CAUGHT UP (IN A ONE NIGHT LOVE AFFAIR)"

They went on to have club hits with:
"AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH"
"MOMENT OF MY LIFE"
"LET'S GO ANOTHER ROUND"

She also fronted LACE, who had a club hit in '83 with "CAN'T PLAY AROUND"

She had a huge, huge solo hit in '84, "SOMEBODY ELSES' GUY".

She was a background singer for many groups, including CHANGE, BIONIC BOOGIE, FANTASTIC ALEEMS, and many of PATRICK ADAMS productions.

In '98 she had another huge hit singin the lead for Louie Vega/Kenny Gonzalez's group NUYORICAN SOUL; the song was "IT'S ALRIGHT-I FEEL IT" and is a classic!

Yes, Jocelyn was more of a studio vocalist and was singing lead (and/or background) vocals for so many acts over the years. But it wasn't really until "Somebody Else's Guy" she went solo.
Check out my INTERVIEW with this lovely lady !!

Disco-on !

Like I always say, I don't pay too much attention to details, like producer, vocalists, remixers(I concentrated on the songs and the mixing, not really caring). So at times I "forget" things. I was aware of her, but never realized she was in so many projects. I also thought that "SOMEBODY ELSE'S GUY" was released much earlier, like in the late 70's?? I thought I was playing a PHILLY INTERNATIONAL 12" of that in 79?? I guess it was all the drugs!! But her vocals on ANGEL IN MY POCKET are one of the truly best individual vocal efforts ever!!

Jocelyn Brown was always popular in the gay clubs too.

Greatest voices, best voice, how about "SEXIEST" voices.-- I will start with TINA CHARLES! Then comes Cristina Monet, Cory Daye, Pat Benatar, LISA LISA and the chick from Odyssey. A special orgasm award goes to Jane Birkin in the French ballad, the eternally sexy "Je T'Aime Mon....". Honorable mention to DONNA SUMMER in "Love To Love You Baby".

La Summer is one of the top vocalists. I saw her perform live a few years ago and the vocals are intact. Power, emotion, she hasn't lost one percent of it all.

As for Disco: Miss Loleatta Holloway. Absolute Turbo! Sampled in so many records but in fact hardly known outside the Disco-club!

Betty Layvette.

One of the most underrated singers.

Also one of the best. :)

I loved the song:
"DOIN' THE BEST THAT I CAN" by Betty LaVette
(1978 Westend 12" - remixed by Walter Gibbons)
I never heard any other dance music from her.
Did she have a follow up? That song was the joint!!

So you are saying that Bette had the sexiest voice? Or that she was a great voice. While I certainly know that, that "joint" was great to smoke, she was a sort of ONE-HIT-WONDER wasn't she? Maybe she is under the wrong thread?

I was just responding to 'PFLEXT' and his reference to Betty. Maybe in Australia she came out with more? PFLEXT let us know!!

Maybe she does belong in the ONE-HIT WONDER thread!
