Cool! I wish I had been there! How often did you get to 4D, Limelight? Palladium? Bond's? I missed those as well. But here in Miami, there certainly were some clubs that had Magic. The Copa in Lauderdale was special. For decades!! The back-to-back punches of Hurricanes Wilma & Katrina, destroyed it. CASANOVA'S in Hialeah had devoted fans, that are actually, organized. And in Club Mystique, where I was at in 84 & 85, the two years it was DISCO(Later Salsa). That was a very emotion, vocal and extremely loyal crowd. They were molded into way that was simply FUN!! Guess that is like what you felt!!

No Run666, we did not "love the Garage because it housed mostly gays"
We LOVED The Garage because the atmosphere made us feel like a big huge family where skin color or bank accounts didn't mean a thing.
We LOVEDThe Garage because there were no attitudes there, no cliques.
We LOVED The Garage because of Larry Levan and his obsession with perfection. Of his understanding of the people on the dance floor. How Larry would read the crowd, he knew what record to play, when to play it, and what record would bring us all the dance floor. He would have a thousand people on the dance floor communing together. Larry made it all about the music and dancing. "This was his house and he is the legend."
We LOVED The Garage for the confetti, we loved the way Larry would have us at a pitched frenzy, then he would have us in total quiet and darkness, driving us insane wondering "what is he going to do now?"
We LOVED The Garage because it opened at midnight and the party would continue until the next afternoon or later.
We LOVED The Garage because of the sound system, omg please, you would have to have experienced it to truly understand, no club could compare.
We LOVED The Garage because of the performers, Chaka Khan Loleatta Holloway Gloria Gaynor Al Hudson The Jones Girls 2 Puerto Ricans, a Blackman, and a Dominican Colonel Abrams Patti Austin Claudja Barry Carl Bean Jocelyn Brown D. Train ESG First Choice Marshall Jefferson France Joli Taana Gardner Gwen Guthrie Nona Hendryx Phyllis Hyman George Kranz Loose Ends Hugh Masekela Mr. Fingers Peech Boys Raw Silk Sylvester Liz Torres The Weather Girls Syreeta Wright Karen Young Grace Jones Lace Unlimited Touch The Peech Boys MFSB Colonel Abrams, and so many more!
We LOVED The Garage because of the Thanksgiving party where they had live turkeys walking around; The Halloween parties with the spider web decorations; The beach parties with the sand; The pajama parties; The roof top; The (once spiked) punch bowl, The Crystal room...
We LOVED The Garage because yes, there were many great clubs, The Loft, Danceteria, Zanzibar, The Palladium, Sound Factory, Copacabana, Funhouse, Area, Studio 54, 2001 Odyssey, Better Days, Limelight, Red Parrot, Roxy, Saint, Underground, Bonds, Galaxy 21, and many others just to name a few, but if you ever experienced The Garage, you know why everyone says there was no place like it...it was SACRED. The Paradise Garage was a spiritual oasis.
In short, we LOVED The Garage Runn66 because LOVE WAS THE MESSAGE!
