Let's keep this as disco as possible folks & don't be shy.
List your favourite tracks that you always heard different lyrics for then later discovered what they really were.
No one is exempt of this classic flaw in listening to music. We all have it.

William De Vaughn - "Be Thankful For What You've Got" I always used to sing...."diamond in the back, sunroof top, diggin' the scene with the GASOLINE".......when in actual fact we all know it's GANGSTER LEAN.

I figured with the subject matter....you know.....cadillacs/gasoline.....yeah that works!

If you lived in rural Australia in 1974 there were no gangsters & the only one I'd seen at the age of 13 was Huggy Bear from Starsky n Hutch or some cool dude on the Welcome Back Kotter or Good Times shows we used to get. 8)

NEXT!

HA HA HA!! GASOLINE!! Were you sniffing GASOLINE at that time?? LOL-- I will think about this Paul, I don't remember having this problem? Maybe the coke kept me alert (HA) enough to realize the true lyrics. But there must be one. I will think this through.

Haha !!! As a Swede and not that very skilled in the English language back in the days - I assume I have tons of these - but probably I still sing along with my "own" words pretending it's the right ones !!! Hahaha !!!
But I will try to recall some...

I can relate to that discoguy...when ever I had trouble understanding lyrics to a song I would either mumble or make them up. Always used to do that to "WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES" by THE DOOBIE BROTHERS. It was'nt till I sang the song on karoke that I finally mastered them..LOL

Here's another gem. This time not misheard by me but one of my clubbers.
It was 1990. This girl comes up to me & says "Can you play the Peter Pan song?" :)
I thought WTF?
Again she asked for the song this time singing it to me. "Peter Pan, Peter pa-aan, wooooh ho".
Still I had no idea what she was talking about. :?
A couple of hours later she came running up to thank me for putting the track she requested on & I said "Which one was it?"
She pointed to the turntable & said "That one!!"

The track that was playing was The 49ers - "Touch Me".

It contains an Aretha Franklin sample from her hit "Rock A Lott".
Arethas sample sings "take a pair & a spare" (referring to having enough batteries for the ghettoi blaster). This is what this girl had misconstrued as being "Peter Pan , Peter Pan."

Still makes me laugh to this day how some people (myself included) can get things so wrong.

LOL funny subject. There was a song by Ipi Tombi called The Warrior. There was a line in it that I swear says Y pido chocha (translation I'm asking for putang). Now the group is african so I'm sure there saying something else but as a teenager it was my favorite line to sing to ladies in the clubs. LOL.

No reply from Hippie above there so I can only presume it worked & he doesn't wanna talk about it. Smooth on the mix & smooth on the chicks.

You all know I'm gonna keep this thread alive don't you?

This is a good one!

My brother just told me he always thought The Trammps - "Disco Inferno'" contained the lyrics (as he heard them)..."that is when my SPUNK got hot, I heard somebody say"........ & later in the refrain vocal section he heard ...."just can't stop, when my SPUNK gets hot".....

SPARK is the correct word.

How he got that wrong............I'll never know. :)

MOJon Con Pelo--- thats the chant I hear in George Krantz's DIN,DA,DA. I still don't know what they chant throughout the entire song?? Does anyone know??

PETE'S NOTE:: "Mojon Con Pelo" in Spanish translates to EXACTLY these words,"SHIT TURD WITH HAIR". LOL

Bucketheads - "The Bomb!" contains a famous misheard lyric.

The line they repeat (according to Bucketheads) is ....."these sounds fall into my mind"..... when the correct lyrics from Chicago - "Streetplayer" are actually....."street sounds swirling through my mind".....
