The Summer of 1977! I lived in Queens, I heard all about THE SON OF SAM. The neighborhood gangs and mafioso's all were in a fury. They had to find this killer. He was bad for business. The streets of Manhattan were empty. Everyone was scared. You had to be, the city was in a panic. Every newspaper and local rag had the words SON OF SAM on them. The Puerto Ricans in Spanish Harlem put a $100,000 price on his head. The Italians in Little Italy did the same. It was a bad time to be alone on New York City streets. Yet in Jersey, I heard about these dances that were going on. The guys in my neighborhood would pile into their cars, and go to them. I eventually went too! Here it was safe, here DISCO still lived and prospered. The Bands were what we were used to. We seen them them everywhere. And The deejays were great. I did not realize that it was Pete behind them until years later in Miami, when he told me of those days. I know many Latinos who had the time of their lives there. So it was cool. But I was glad when it was over! Great stuff, brings me back, even though these were not New York's best days!!

The Summer of 77 was a waste. Couldn't go to the City, no-one there! But I did go to the Dance Hall Parties in Elizabeth and Newark, New Jersey. It proved that Discos could work outside of The Big Apple, and the Clubs started popping up everywhere. The PALM, and Club Zanzibar come to mind as early Clubs.

I was there for all those Dances. I worked the door! These parties were totally the BOMB!! Packed houses each time. I remember once, The Trammps and Gloria Gaynor playing in between a Local band called JE T'AIME. How about if I tell you that JE T'AIME was the best act that night! Nothing against the stars, they were outstanding! But you could not beat the 25 or so musicians of that local band. They were the real stars of those Dance Hall Days! What ever happened to them?

This was an informative and fantastic read. Good stuff. I bet it was some scary times for the partiers. So how long were these DANCES? What did it cost to get in?

That's a fantastic story. 8)

Push comes to shove & Pete shoves back, taking the disco to the kids.

You should be very proud of yourself as an ambassador for disco & keeping it alive for the youth in the face of such adversity.

Like you say, they were the next generation of clubbers. :D

Everything about this movie was realistic. How about the Adrian Brody character. PUNK & GAY! I relate to that!
