This is my tribute to the one and only Sound of Philadelpia. You can download the 'love train mixtape' here: http://rapidshare.com/files/9553492/Love_Train__a_TSOP_mixtape_.mp3.html (choose 'free', then you have to wait a minute or so, then type a code etc.). These are the stations on the way:

1. The O'Jays - Love Train
2. Eddie Holman - This Will Be A Night To Remember
3. Double Exposure - Ten Percent
4. Teddy Pendergrass - The More I Get, The More I Want
5. First Choice - Double Cross
6. Loleatta Holloway - All About The Paper [Bobby 'DJ' Guttadaro Mix]
7. Anglo Saxon Brown - Gonna Make You Mine
8. True Reflection - That's Where I'm Coming From
9. Metropolis feat. Sweethearts - Here's To You [A Tom Moulton Mix]
10. The Spinners - Could It Be I'm Falling In Love
11. Nuyorican Soul feat. India & Vincent Montana jr. - Runaway
12. Love Committee - Just As Long As I Got You
13. Lou Rawls - Let Me Be Good To You
14. Bunny Sigler - Cry My Eyes Out
15. Instant Funk - Can You See Where I'm Coming From
16. Dionne Warwick - Once You Hit The Road

Enjoy!

How about FAT LARRY'S BAND?? They were from Philly, but not a part of Philadelphia International Records? And in that same boat was Phil Hurtt. Do they count?

A couple of posts ago mentioned The Intruders started The Philly Sound. I always thought it was "The Love I Lost" by Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes or "Love Is The Message" by MFSB, or even "Back Stabbers" by The O'Jays as these 3 songs came out BEFORE "Always Love my Mama".

If you want to get technical, "I Just Can't Stop Dancing" by Archie Bell & The Drells (produced by Gamble-Huff), released in '70 started The Philly Sound.

[b]Oh I forgot Jerry Butler!!! What dynomite stuff I've got of his:
"Only The Strong Survive"
"Moody Woman"
"What's The Use Of Breaking Up"
all 3 produced by Gamble-Huff in 1970-71.
and "One Night Affair" in '72.
"Coyboys To Girls" by The Intruders WAS before the 3 that I had mentioned.
Good Stuff Pete!!!!!! My Bad!!!

Who remembers Harlows, Philadelphia's first Discotheque, that small wonderful venue on Bank Street. (1973-1974)
