DiscoT,
Hansa & Ariola was kind of big in Europe... Both released lots of Disco 12" singles, so I think that's where you've probably seen their names frequently. But I think CBS (and related) along with Atlantic (and related) was bigger.

As I recall, they (Hansa) did release some stuff in the US - or maybe it was just licensed stuff that some other label released within the US but with the Hansa logo on it.
Else I would guess it was mostly imports if you were to get Hansa releases in the US.
But also, I think Hansa licensed from the US for European release.
But I won't write all of the above in stone, but that's how I seem to recall things.

Hey Disco guy,
after checking my collection, I can see that most of the Boney M EP's that I have, are from Hansa.
However Hooray Hooray it's a holiday & Rivers of Babylon are also on 12" EP from Atlantic (US pressing), as special limited editions.
Maybe that's how some songs reached the US aswell.

I remembered a couple more not listed yet- ROULETTE & MIDLAND INTERNATIONAL. How about the batch of labels out of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey and Sylvia Robinson, they had The Moments, The Whatnots, The Stylistics, Van McCoy, and eventually the Sugarhill Gang.- One was H&L Records!!(Hugo & Luigi)

Yea the Soul Train Label was owned by Dick Griffey & Don Cornelius. They had a couple of hits, notibly "Soul-Train Theme'75".
Well Griffey & Cornelius had a parting of the ways and split up. Don took his patended 'Soul Train' brand name with him; and Griffey took the record company and renamed it SOLAR Records- -SOLAR for Sound Of Los Angeles Records.
He then developed a roster that included: The Whispers, Carrie Lucas, Lakeside, Shalimar, Midnight Starr, and more...
Solar was responsible for many many disco and R&B classics. "UPTOWN FESTIVAL"--"GOTTA KEEP DANCIN"--"THE BEAT GOES ON"--FANTASTIC VOYAGE"-- "RIGHT IN THE SOCKET"--"THE SECOND TIME AROUND"-- "I'VE JUST BEGUN TO LOVE YOU"--"ONE FOR THE MONEY" (and if you listen to Pete: "MAKE IT WITH YOU")
PETE'S NOTE:: JAY, Me La Mama!!

OLD GOLD RECORDS......
This was a record label that was formed in 1988 out of Essex, London.
They specialized in re-issues of all genres of music in 45rpm & 12" format.
Bought alot of classic funk, soul & disco off this lable over the years.
Unfortunatley i believe the label is no longer trading,

I mentioned them in the "eye cue" thread.
Guess I should have stuck 'em in here too.
Well spotted Rigo.
