DJ CHULO,

THE CLASSIC "DONT LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD" BY SANTA ESMERALDA IS NOT THE ANSWER FOR MY KILLER TRACK.

NICE TRY.

GIVE IT ANOTHER SPIN AT THE WHEEL!

I still have no idea Pinky....not even close. :?
Tell you what though, you certainly haven't lost the ability to hype a track. :)

I have had enough! Like I said before, as soon as you give the title, we are going to say "I knew it" or something relative. I got to say Pinky, you got everybody going with this one.
I hope I can generate as much response with my next post.
Later old friend,
Pooch

Pinky, you stated that the orginal was sung by a Puerto Rican during the 20's or 30's.

Are you 100% sure it was a Puerto Rican who first sang this mysterious tune?

DISCOMENG,

YOUR QUESTION ABOUT THE NATIONALITY OF THE ORIGINAL SINGER OF MY KILLER TRACK MADE ME STOP IN MY TRACKS AND PERFORM A LITTLE BIT OF RESEARCH.

THE ORIGINAL ARTIST WAS NOT FROM PUERTO RICO AS I ACTUALLY PERCEIVED.

HE WAS FROM THE DOMINCAN REPUBLIC.

AND THE ORIGINAL SONG WAS RECORDED IN 1955.

MY KILLER TRACK IS A CLUB RENDITION OF THIS ORIGINAL SONG.

THERE HAVE BEEN SUNSHINE SOUND ACETATES WITH AN EXTENDED EDIT OF THIS TRACK.

I HAVE THE ACETATE BUT PREFERRED SPINING 2 COPIES OF THE ORIGINAL 7 INCH FOR 2 REASONS:
THE QUALITY WAS BETTER ON THE ORIGINAL AND I CAN PLAY THE TRACK LONGER AND MORE CREATIVELY THAN THE SUNSHINE EDIT.

THE TRACK ASSISTED ME IN THE EVOLUTION OF MORE TYPES OF HISPANICS TO ENTER THE IPANEMA, YOUNG AND OLD. BRAZILLIANS LOVED IT TOO.
I USED TO SING THE LYRICS ON THE STREETS OF SPANISH HARLEM (EL BARRIO) WHEN GROWING UP AND THE LYRICS ALWAYS CREATED EXCITEMENT---AND A LAUGH!

THE LYRICS

THE TRACK WAS A SECET WEAPON FOR ME AT THE IP!

MY KILLER TRACK WAS RELEASED IN 1975 ON THE RCA LABEL IN ARGENTINA AND THEN RE-RELEASED ON THE SOUTH AMERICAN ARCANO LABEL( WHICH MAY BE A SUBSIDIARY OF RCA). THE TRACK ITSELF WAS RECORDEED IN PERU . IT IS NAMED AFTER ONE OF THE CITIES IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. THE SONG TITLE IS A CONVERSATION PEACE WITH ALL TYPES OF HISPANICS BECAUSE IT "TOUCHES HOME".

THIS TRACK CAUSED QUITE A STIR OF TALK AND DANCE IN THE EARLY NIGHTCLUBS IN MIAMI IN 1975. THIS IS DOCUMENTED ON A WEBSITE. AS A MATTER OF FACT, IT ASISTED THE LATIN DISCO MARKET TO EVOLVE AND BECOME THE LATIN DISCO SCENE OF THE 1970S AND 1980S WITH THE COLLABORATION OF OTHER PRE-DISCO TRACKS SUCH AS "WOMAN/WILD SAFARI" BY BARRABAS, "WHAT'S GOING ON "BY EL CHICANO, "THE MEXICAN "BY BABE RUTH, RAIN 200/SULTANA" BY TITANIC, "LIFE AND DEATH IN G & A "BY THE ABACO DREAM ,", "DO YOURSELF A FAVOR" BY STEVIE WONDER, "RAIN" BY DOROTHY MORRISON ,"JUNGLE FEVER" BY THE CHA KA CHAS(WHICH SOMEONE GAS ALREADY MENTIONED ON THIS AS A GREAT GUESS IN THIS FORUM ).

THE NAME OF THE SONG IS WELL KNOWN ALL OVER THE CARRIBEAN AND LATIN PLACES ON THE GLOBE.

IF YOU MENTION THE SONG TITLE TO A N Y SPANISH SPEAKING PERSON,
YOU WILL RAISE AN EYYBROW OF CURIOUSITY FROM THAT PESON EVEN IF THAT PESON HAS NEVER BEEN TO A DISCO.

IT IS A UNIVERSALLY LATIN TITLE.

IT IS 2 WORDS.

I KNOW THAT WHEN I PROVIDE THE ANSWER, THERE WILL BE MORE CURIOSITY AND RESEARCH DONE ON THIS.

YOU MAY NOT KNOW THIS BUT THIS IS QUITE HISTORIC FOR THIS FORUM.

DOES THE PINK LADY QUALIFY TO GIVE THIS A SHOT?

Thats why I asked, in PR during the 20s and 30's their style of music was very waltz like.

Now with this new info I'd have to go with Katunga's " Palo Bonito ",my parents played the heck out of it and many artists have remade this record in many forms.

Yes Discomeng - That must be it!

I know the song through various latin compilations but I'm not familiar with the Katunga version, so here's another one instead:
