hi folks.
a bit about me.

i've been a DJ since the early 80's
playing in walthamstow e17,with a bunch of crazy guy's called the jazz syndicate.the originals where, aja, dean and steve.i joined a few years later.followed closely by marky mark.
a few years ago mark found some cheap software on the net and JSR(jazz syndicate radio)was born.we broadcast for 4 1/2 years till the shutdown came.
you can now find me on starpoint radio, playing a mix of old and new soul, funk & jazz + all related genres.check the schedule.

Alright Darren, I'll bite! THE SHUTDOWN? Explain! And do you ever play old time Disco? Harold Melvin, The O'Jays, Intruders, Crown Heights Affair all come to mind. How about Third World? And what is STARPOINT? A Web radio station or what. PIRATE radio?? Explain. Thanks.

the shutdown.
the guv had a full time job aswell as the station to run.he also had a family.after 4 1/2 years he needed to spend more time with the latter.and to be honest,i'd rather the station close than see a mate lose his mind.it was the right choice to make.

i loves me philly music, and can always make space for it.the philly sound is what i grew up on (i was born in 63),aswell as motown and a bit of jazz.
fave group is E,W & F.but i also like the modern soul thing that's happening in the UK.

starpoint radio.
well it's an internet based station, also broadcasts on the sky network.
all you need to know about the station is in their history section.

as for the pirates,i used to fly the skull & crossbones for radio shoestring very briefly in '86.that was a blast, but the restictions where getting tighter & tighter.and the penalties where nasty.

what do play today.
well here's a taster.
1/ george duke - say that you will.
2/ hi tension - there's a reason.
3/ archie bell & the drells - harder & harder.
4/ mtume - so you wanna be a star.
5/ mass production - inner city groove.
6/ sweet thunder - everybody singing love song's.
7/ edwin starr - running back & forth.
8/ archie bell & the drells - here i go again.
9/ jackie wilson - whispers.
10/ odyssey - inside out.
11/ jose feliciano - golden lady.
12/ mfsb - summertime and i'm feeling mellow.
13/ the embers - last time we say goodbye.
14/ S.A.Q.richard e - music is our universe.
15/ gerado frisina ft mitoka samba - batucadas.
16/ george duke - are you ready.
17/ the jones girls - you can't have my love.
18/ the whatnauts - help is on the way.
19/ tony etoria - i can prove it.
20/ dayton - eyes on you.
21/ the dells - nothing but love.
22/ rob mullins - samba.
23/ gwen mccrae - keep the fire burning.
24/ major harris - lovin you is mellow.

hope that answers some of your questions. :P

Robin Knight & I are old associates. I met him when he first emigrated around '88. Haven't seen much of him as he dropped off the scene about 15 yrs ago but he recently formed a promotions company with another old mate by the name of Peter Glass. They now throw quite a few parties & I've just been invited to go to one of those so I guess I'll bump into him sometime soon. Will be good to catch up. We were members of the Disco Mix Club (Australia) & even competed against each other back in the day.
