Hi Soulboy,First True Love Affair released from Fulltime Records-Italy(#FTM31502) in the spring of 1981 and the original 12inch has 2 mixes:
A vocal that clocks at 8:23 and the instrumental without time info.
The song was very very big for the dancefloors of Italy,Spain and Greece.
Several months later,in the summer of'81 Quality/RFC Records-Canada doin their second release(QRFC002) with the remix of LL for Jimmy's song.
There's two versions again(sideA 7:15,sideB 5:59)but no remix.LL did not add new elements or put any fx,or even a delay somewhere. It's just a re-arrangement by re-editing.If you have the chance to listen the original release you'll see that LL versions are very far from a any kind of remix.
But it's OK,Ray Caviano and RFC records do their thing,a good representation of the song and a heavy club program rotation at PG.

PETE'S NOTE:: You are correct my friend, I got that from the HBO special. But it is true!!

OK there is only 1 way to know about LL & his studio remixing.
(not his spinning, we know that wasn't so good)

Let's take a listen.
I have here the original "FIRST TRUE LOVE AFFAIR" and Larry's REMIX.

Listen to both. Do you hear the difference??
Is there a difference??

I had the import 2 months before LL's version came out.
I played both and live remixed them.
I kept BOTH of them cause I couldn't decide which one I liked better.

Check it out & let me know!!!

Jay I don't know if the remix of a song for you is to put some delay in the claps and some organ in the end.My opinion of remix is to WORK the song.
Some examples:
Let No Man Put Asunder - First Choice by Shep Pettibone (maybe the greatest remix ever)
Lovebreak - Salsoul Orchestra again by Shep
Keep On & You're The One For Me - D-Train by Francois Kevorkian
Love Is The Message - MFSB by Tom Moulton from the Philadelphia Classics LP
Hit & Run - Loleatta Holloway by Walter Gibbons
Doing The Best That I Can - Bettye LaVette by Walter Gibbons
Ten Percent & My Love Is Free - Double Exposure again by Walter
Runaway Love - Linda Clifford by Jim Burgess
Hot Butterfly - Bionic Boogie again by Jim
That's Remixes, not First True Love Affair. But for someone who can't mix a 121bpm song with another at 122bpm maybe it's perfect because show exactly his talent, the real one,not Walter's!

Say George, I agree with you. Totally.
All those remixes you mentioned above are all the CLASS of the bunch!
I would include "I'LL BE HOLDING ON" Al Downing - mixed by Tom Moulton in that class.

Just wanted to show - proof is in the pudding.

Jay? Did interpret you correctly, you agree with Dancer? You finally see the light? You realize, and agree, that he was not"All That"???

Never said he was #1. Now I'm realizing he was less than what I thought.
By listening to his studio remixes and comparing them to others he was way down the ladder.
Still better than Jellybean! (that's not saying much)

LL STILL HOLDS HIS SPOT IN THE DISCO ERA, BECAUSE PEOPLE STILL TALK ABOUT HIM AND ALL HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS, AND STILL USE ALL HIS MUSIC AND MIXES.

My friend DJ Chulo,LL has the chance to be famous from his longtime residency at Paradise Garage, but this didn't make him a good DJ like Alex.
After ten years at the booth of PG he never learn to mix even his shoes.
The topic has to do with IF and HOW good was LL at his work ,no who was the wellknow and famous and everything shows clearly that LL wasn't any good.If you search on net you can easily find mix sets of LL.Listen all of them,no one can compare with the the mixing ability of a professional DJ like Alex,so is unfair to tell him who remember who.
He has his opinion and he was there,a REAL DJ in NYC in many clubs, all these years, and knows about it.He didn't say that he was better than LL,he is saying that nobody doing so awful the dj work as LL.They were many better djs than LL in NYC,but the guy has the right mythology for record companies to release hundreds of compilations about him and the Paradise Garage and the most important, they don't have to pay him a cent for this!
And something more:Most of times, memories from Paradise Garage has to do with the sound system, the beautiful music of those years, the live performances of the artists even with the drugs that people taken back then. It's not just the legend(?) :D

For someone who signs out PEACE, you sure like to create problems. Do you have any concept as to what the posts were about? Chill out.

Yo Chulo, are you always so aggressive? We all have the right to express our opinions, even you! LL was over-rated. That is my opinion also. I used to feel differently. My mind has been changed by these threads!! Thanks guys, you opened my eyes!!
