New technology with re-edits from CDs or with a laptop pre-recorded set is just a fake thing....When we talk about Disco music and Disco DJs,everybody imagine real DJs with turntables,records and ''big'' real skills!!!!!! That's why I can be very ''rude'' in my answers to some ''laptop disco djs'' here..... They can prove who they are LIVE like Jim Burgess,Walter Gibbons,Bobby V,Dan Pooch or Jay Negron did it live back then!!!! If they can't it's OK,that's THEIR PROBLEM,but I can't see them as real DJs and this why NOBODY know them,or respect them  Fake Technology Case Closed !!!!!

I agree with Dancer. Although, pressing the right button at the right time requires a certain talent, I would go up against any of these "Tech/CJs" any day of the week. Give me my tables and a crate of records and I will make you cry.

I have no argument with CD players as I have two myself but I think that Lap-tops have no rightfull place in a dj booth unless it is for control of the lighting only..
If I see a dj using a lap-top in a club or bar...I'm out of there!

(POOCH) ACTUALLY, I BRING ABOUT 300 RECORDS WITH ME.
(CJ) THATS IT!! YOU EXPECT TO ENTERTAIN PEOPLE WITH 300 SONGS, I BLOW THAT AWAY!!
(POOCH) REALLY!! CAN YOU REMIX A SONG? CAN YOU START THE SONG IN THE BREAK AND MIX IT OVER ANOTHER SONG AND REMIX BACK TO THE BEGINING ? CAN YOU PHASE IT OUT AND THEN DOUBLE TRACK, PULL OUT AND FLIP TO THE DUB VERSION AND THEN MIX IT IN OVER THE VOCAL VERSION?? NOW WHEN THE DUB VERSION IS PLAYING CAN YOU TAKE THE ACAPELLA FROM ANOTHER SONG AND LAY IT OVER THE DUB VERSION?? THEN PULL OUT AND PLAY A COMPLETLY DIFFERENT SONG OVER THAT??
(CJ) WHAT THE HELL IS ALL THAT??

I NOTICED THE CJ STOOD BY THE BAR FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. TOMMY THE BARTENDER TOLD ME "HE WAS BLOWN AWAY MAN, HE WATCHED YOU GOING BACK AND FORTH IN THERE AND THOUGHT YOU WERE NUTS". HE SAID, "I COULD NEVER DO THAT".

That dude was not a DJ, VJ, CJ whatever you wanna call him.
He was a human juke box, that's it.
He don't know how to entertain a dance floor except by playing requests---that's it!!
(We usta put a quarter in the juke for 1 song; 3 songs for 50 cents)
I only do about 5-6 gigs a year now and I'll bring almost 200 records TOPS!!!
Most of the time it's about only 125; and I STILL don't use em all!!
What a joke that guy was!!!!

Hey Claes,
Q is located in Staten Island. But, the Sunday t dance will stop now as the summer is in full swing. They have now spoken to me about playing classics on Fridays, so we will see. Anyone from this site is welcome to come and hang whenever I play. Just give a heads up and I will take care of you. That means a couple of drinks and the enjoyment of the art, which for me is never lost.

Hey it's been a minute since I've been here (got divorced, moved out of Florida etc.....) but the lost art of remixing is just that. I like a a lot of you grew up and started with vinyl. Then I moved over to CD's. 1 because there easier on my back and 2 I can put 10 hots tunes on 1 Cd as opposed to carrying 10 LP's or 12" for the individual cuts. But I haven't moved over to computers because there not there yet as far as I'm concerned. Someday they may be but as of this moment there not. So my point is if you can make magic happen with the tools you have (be it whatever format) then you're doing your art justice. After all if we really want to be purist most of us would be DJing like Mancuso. One record at a time and let it play out. Like the first DJ's use to do. Anything else is a progression forward.
