Here is one for those who spin. WHAT SONG HAD THE BEST INTRODUCTION for a deejay to use? This can be a very technical question, or not. It is from your perspective. I have three off the top of my head that I will start the thread with. In no particular order, they are

AT MIDNIGHT-The T-Connection on TK 12"
GET ON THE FUNK TRAIN- Munich Machine
KEEP ON DANCIN'- Gary's Gang

Let's talk about them a second. An almost three minute introduction, featuring percussion made AT MIDNIGHT a favorite for me and many others who used it in a variety of ways. GET ON THE FUNK TRAIN featured an introduction that had the vocalist tell you what was coming. Great for over-lays. KEEP ON DANCIN' was a very Deejay friendly record that allowed for various mixes, from timing mixes a few seconds long, to long overlay mixes of many measures. There are tons more, which were your favorites!

SUNSET PEOPLE by Donna Summer was one of my favorites. It was High Energy, but was great with Claudja Barry, and MOVE ON UP. Do you guys remember that one?

3 exciting intros that come to mind are:
"DREAMING A DREAM"-Crown Heights Affair

"MAGIC BIRD OF FIRE"-Salsoul Orch.

"SITUATION"-Yazoo (Francois K Remix)

A DJ can do alot with those! Many many others!

Oh what a great intro Dreamin had!! The Crown Heights Affair were spectacular. That guitar just snuck in, then BOOM! MAGIC BIRD OF FIRE is one of my all-time favorite songs. To remix, it is spectacular. What I would do with those horns!! And Situation was great. Love to play them all.

In Westchester, there was Dj Donald who could turn anything into a screamer.

I recall when he took the Pointer Sister's "I'm So Excited" long after it lost it's favor and reinvented it there on the turntable to make the crowd scream! It was flawless how he was able to take that intro and work a number of things in and out of it before slamming the floor hard. God, but I still remember that sweaty night like it was yesterday because it was that momentous.

Mike, tell us more about that deejay. NAME? WHERE? WHEN? I too did a lot with I'm So Excited! Easy to do, and you would be surprised by the many mixes I performed. From that to DIN DA DA!! Think about it, it was actually easy!!

How could we forget this, the Classic DISCONET version of LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME had a great introduction. Now I had been playing this song for over a year before I got this version. It gave the song new energy and a new direction as well, as it subsequently became THE Gay Anthem!! Always a dance floor favorite. Packed them, everytime the record was played. The extra long intro led to many fabulous mixes. This has to be included in any conversation about the BEST of Disco!

What was easy for the majority of DJ's always remained an envious talent for me. I loved hanging out in the booth watching a DJ get into his zone and cranking out hot mixes.

The DJ Donald worked at The Playroom in Yonkers. He taught a lot of other local DJ's how to mix so his "disciples" carried on his tradition such as Randy Lu who worked at The Playroom and then over to Zipperz in New Rochelle.

Don't have much more info than that on them but damn they were good!

Mike,
I NEVER HEARD OF THEM!!But that is not a bad thing, it just proves my point. I believe you when you tell me how great these guys were. In every city, there were Deejays no-one ever heard of, that were as good or better then most "superstar" deejays. New York City deejays made names for themselves, but they were no better then the other hundreds of Great Deejays everywhere. Smooth mixers are, were required in every cities best clubs. But How about all the other clubs? There were many great deejays that we never heard of. Those are the real Heros, they spread Disco Music everywhere else. Great deejays were not limited to NYC or any Big City. The best deejays were scattered everywhere. They helped spread the wealth!! Understand!!

Here I got another one. CALL ME by SKYY, especially the 12" version. It was such a great introduction. If you timed it perfect, it was always a perfect mix!! Could not miss if you can match a beat! So that leaves Ed out! I got hundreds of them!

While I was never a big JELLYBEAN fan, I give him his due! The introduction of THE MEXICAN was great! It gave me plenty to work with. In fact that whole 12" was great. A deejays' dream!! I mixed everything with it!! From Madonna to Huey Lewis!! Loved IT!!
