On the subject of DJ's Frankie Beauchamp was a great DJ in his day. Later went on to design the sound for some major clubs (still installing systems) and now living in Florida also.

You see, another Jersey Boy who won't heed my advice. Jersey rocks, this sunshine is for the birds. You know I did not know what the color green really looked like until I came south. In Jersey, Green was sort of grayish. AND there wasn't much of it in the streets of Newark, Jersey City and Union City! HIPPIE get Frankie to join in the fun!!

WALTER GIBBONS was a pioneer DJ who made his name in a club called 'Galaxy 21'.
He was the house jock there that had such a command of a tri-amp sound system that his sets sounded different everynight. He always played 'HUSTLE' music. It was his specialty.
It was 1976--The club stayed open until the wee hours of the morning, so after spinning at Tropicalia until 4am I always went to hear what Walter was doing.
He would play with the Bass, Treble & Midrange so well that when he got hold of a crowd he "live-remixed" the jam all different ways.
I remember he had The Trammps' "DISCO PARTY" at the middle part:
"dance, everybody dance, everybody dance"
and he played with that break for over 20 minutes; taking out the bass, putting it back in by itself--coming in with the vocals & the bass only---coming in with the highs, nothing else----he had everybody screaming.
I remember him actually turning up & down the volume of each amplifier to maximum effect.
He gave every top height of the night song his own treatment.
PLUS he had his own private edits / remixes pressed on acetate. And he worked the tri-amp system on top of that. It was really a show!

You know I'm extremely jealous of your time @ Galxy hearing a master @ work. 
Wish i'd been there. 
Thank goodness he never called any of his mixes a "funky gibbons mix"  (That's a Goodies joke for those that don't know)

One of the best djs and remixers ever and a rare example (alongside with Jim Burgess) of a famous remixer and a dj with real skills.
His work was a major influence for all the later remixers and even at 1984 with Strafe's Set It Off, Walter was still a pioneer,someone to show the future directions of remix-post production in modern dance music !

I heard them all, NYC/NJ, I'll put my guy Jerry Lembo vs. anybody.
I was the Strawberry Patch. Designed it, built it, ran it, you name it, I did it.
Hell of an 8 year run. Started @ the age of 22.
Those were the days...

JAIME I USED TO LIVEIN PASSAIC PARK AND ALSO WET TO THE STRAWBERRY PATCH AROUND 80 TO 82 THE PLACE WAS OK BUT NOTHING TO BRAG ABOUT. THE MUSIC WAS OK TOO IT WAS A BERRY WHITE CLUB, NOT TO MANY BLACKS OR LATINOS. THERE WHERE MANY OTHER CLUBS IN JERSEY MUCH BETTER LIKE DANCING, ELEGANTES, MEADOW BROOK, CREATONS, JUST TO MENTION A FEW, AND AS TO THE CLUBS IN NYC YOU COULD NOT EVEN START TO COMPARE THAT PLACE TO ANY I MEAN ANY CLUB IN NYC.
I ALSO REMEMBER THE BOUNCERS AT THE PATCH BEING BERRY ABUSIVE ALWAYS BEATEN UP DRUNK ETC PEOPLE I DONT KNOW IF YOU REMEMBER ONE OF THE BOUNCERS THERE GETTING SLAM AND GETTING HIS ARM BROKEN I KNOW THE PERSOM WHO DID THIS TO HIM. SO AS TO THE PATCH BEING A GREAT CLUB IN NJ ONLY ON A 1 TO 10 I GIVE IT A 5 AND COMPARE TO NYC 0.
AS TO JERRY LEMBO HE WAS OK BUT THERE WERE ALOT BETTER DJ'S THEN HIM AROUND IN THAT TIME FRAME.

Jerry Lembo started a company called "Platinum Promotions" and was an independent promoter. I think that was back in 1979. He later was appointed director of promotion for adult contemporary music at Columbia records and gave up the indy company. I think Jerry retired in 2001 from Columbia as a Vice-President.
