hello disco friends, i´m brand new here and this is my first post. i believe you won´t regret spending your time by reading this. i want to tell you just a little bit about me, but mainly let you hear (in my opinion) good 70s / 80s disco music made here in the former czechoslovakia, czech and slovak republic nowadays. i´m 35 years old and the hey days of disco, you know probably very well, passed me by - but not only due to my age, it´s also due to the eastern block politics...... classic international 70s disco music was never played in radio or available here (except rare stuff like abba, boney m. or bee gees or you could get some - not so many - czech cover versions), so some wider demand and offer couldn´t be established. me personally found it occasionally in the 80s thanx to classic house music played on foreign (austrian) radio stations, which often sampled it (f.e. tolga flim flam balkan - joint mix) and the samples were fortunately not cleared:) nowadays i have many disco 12" singles (which were never available here) and cds with music i have heard somewhere, wanted and could then find in shops etc. but back to the topic. in the last 2-3 years i tried hard to find original czech trax, that could be described as disco and i was surprised - there was disco created by few czech composers and musicians! even if all the good songs would fit in 1 cd, it´s still worth it. i don´t want to talk about details. i prefer the music to play instead. thanx to disco-disco and youtube i can bring some of them to your ears and in some cases also to your eyes. here they are - some of the best czech disco pieces: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr7WBxTf ... 1&index=37http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZbiqpYE3i8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAigOT18 ... re=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld32HEk3TTk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggdro7Hj ... re=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzU3QFpLY-Ii´m very interested in what you think about it. let me know. and enjoy! mr_goodbeat

Thank you Mr_GoodBeat
This is exactly what this area is all about... Getting to hear Disco music from all over the world. Tracks you would probably never get to hear if no one let you know about them - just like Mr_GoodBeat does here...
I really enjoyed listening to these tracks a lot! So please keep it coming...
Thanks and Disco-on !

I love this stuff as well - anything offbeat, quirky and leftfield is always a lot more interesting than standard product with generic, unsurprising formula arrangements etc.

The above stuff is imo too generic pop dance, it could have been made anywhere in the world, only the vocals suggest anything remotely "different". I'm constantly looking for ( and finding!) disco from behind the ex-iron curtain, often made by extremely skilled, trained jazz musicans. The Polish Muza label is a limitless sorce of treasures. I was just in Kyoto in Japan, and at the Jet Set store, there was a whole section of the stuff available - at a price to put it mildly, naturally. Incredibly weird semi-experimental instrumentals, filled with sub-Moroder synths, electro-static noises, psyched vocals, sitars and sudden bursts of melody amid relentless robotic rhythm - in other words, just what the cooler kids into alternative disco/rare groove/cosmic dance appreciate today.

you´re right, jussi. these aren´t the things you´re digging for, but i think i undestand what you mean. don´t know the polish things you´re writing about, but i´m sure there were similar things in czech(oslovakia) too. try to find f.e. the group bohemia, especially the track co mi brání . it is from 1978, consisted of mostly jazz musicians and sounded disco-ish.

wow, Jana Kratochvílová - Dlouhá bílá žhoucí kometa is a massive track... some of the others are really cool too... the only czech thing i've got is the album ORM - Discofil which is very nice, with some cover versions, i like their version of magic fly. my favorite track on there is Vikend though, couldn't find anything on youtube... http://www.discogs.com/ORM-Discofil/release/590766
