Donna Summer, the singer who came to be known as the “Queen of Disco” died today after battling cancer. She was 63.

Summer's gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s. Her songs was the soundtrack for a glittery age of sex, drugs, dance and flashy clothes. Her sound was a mix of genres, and helped her earn 5 Grammy Awards in the dance, rock, R&B and inspirational categories.

She was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard chart. Her hits whose pulsing anthems such as “Bad Girls,” “Love to Love You Baby” , On the Radio, "Hot Stuff" ,"MacArthur Park" made her a disco icon.

Donna was in the disco dud movie, "Thank God It's Friday" (1978) and played the part of Nicole Sims, an aspiring disco singer. Nicole at a disco club sneaks up on stage before the main event "The Commodores"' and scores a huge triumph singing "Last Dance" .

She released her last album, "Crayons," in 2008. She also performed on "American Idol" that year with its top female contestants.

Heaven knows
It's not the way it should be
And heaven knows
It's not the way it could be
And don't you know
There's no need to leave
Heaven knows
I never wanna leave you
Heaven knows
I only wanna please you
Don't you know
Love + Donna Summers is what I need

May she rest in peace...........
