I have talked about them with monsieur Denis a few weeks ago and he told me he was not a big fan. My opinion is that they were much more popular in Europe than in the US of A. Their distinctive sound got deeper than in the period they were known as the Universal Robot Band with the typical Patrick Adams sound. Innovative, weird but oh so catchy.

When the KLEEER surfaced they went more R&B/Funk!

So, please "Taste The Music" of this IMO highly underrated band:

"Get Tough" on their heavy sound:

Go crazy on "De Kleeer Thing"

And, do "Keep Your Body Workin'"

They were very popular in some places. I bet the Black clubs played this more then the places I worked. But I did program their songs. The results were what was poor, not the tracks themselves. They just never really were able to crossover, and really succeed in the States. Maybe to our loss!

Thanks Starr,

Never knew Kleeer was formerly the Universal Robot Band... Wonder why they changed name ?! Could it be P&P (Peter Brown & Patrick Adams) owning the name or something ?!

I like them !!! :D

Kleer's song "GET TOUGH" was a TOP 5 NYC club hit and a radio staple for at least 6 months in 1981.

It was one of WBLS DJ Frankie Crocker's "Secret Weapons".
He played the song at least once every 2 hours for the first 2 weeks of February that year without ever announcing the name or the artist.
He always announced: "Here is my secret weapon" and that's all he said.
The secrecy worked and demand for the song was incredible.
I used to get requests at 'Pegasus' to play Frankie's secret weapon---the one with 'John Wayne' in it!
The song was absolutely a Dance floor filler!!!!!

While I am not a fan, I will admit that they sound much better today to my ears.
