Pete, you are speaking about my weakness.
When I think Salsoul Orchestra it's hard to separate MFSB, & The Trammps.
I mean they are the same band---and they can do so much!!!

I mean when you put all The Salsoul Orchestra LPs together with the MFSB LPs and you got some kick ass body of work. The Trammps is just the iceing on the cake!!!!

The first Salsoul Orchestra LP was tremendous.
"TANGERINE"
"CHICAGO BUS STOP (ooh I love it)"
"SALSOUL HUSTLE"
"SALSOUL RAINBOW"
"GET HAPPY"
"TALE OF THREE CITIES"
"YOU'RE JUST THE RIGHT SIZE"

I used to play ALL those songs in PRIME TIME when the LP came out.

Soon after that The "PHILLY CLASSICS" LP came out with all the Gamble & Huff classics remixed by Tom Moulton.
Soon after The Trammps came out with their first full length album: "THAT'S WHERE THE HAPPY PEOPLE GO"

So within a 3 month period in 1976 this group DOMINATED the dance floor!!!! Glad I was spinning at this time --- It was magic!!!!

It really doesn't get any better then these guys. Now jay, I want to get this correct. Are you telling us, that the Salsoul Orchestra used to be MFSB? And that the Philly Sound simply moved to New York, and became the New York sound? They were one and the same? BTW, TANGERINE was my all time Vince favorite.

Can't fault much by the Salsoul Orchestra, they left a great legacy that has been heavily sampled in a lot of modern dance music.
Take one of my favourite tracks "OOH I LOVE IT" (LOVE BREAKS)

Sample used on MADONNA'S - "VOGUE"

Also some people in the music industry cite "OOH I LOVE IT" (LOVE BREAKS) as containing one of the first vocal raps as it was released before the SUGARHILL GANG - "RAPPERS DELIGHT"
