To me the greatest Disco Artist / Band / Group of musicians that played on more Disco Hits than any other is The original group of men that first came to be known as MFSB. Let me introduce you:

Ron Baker : bass
Norman Harris : guitar
Bobby Eli : guitar
Earl Young : drums
Larry Washington : congas
Ron Kersey : keyboards
Vince Montana Jr. : vibes
Don Reynaldo : arranger of the Strings & Horns

This was the core group of guys that were responsible for "The Philly Sound"---Sometimes the band leader (arranger) was Kenny Gamble, sometimes Leon Huff, most times Bobby Martin, sometimes Bunny Sigler, many times one of the band themselves. Let me list just some of the songs that I remember that they played in:

INTRUDERS: "Cowboys To Girls" - "She's A Winner" - "Always Love My Mama"

HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUENOTES: "The Love I Lost" - "Bad Luck" - "If You Don't Know Me By Now" - "Where Are All My Friends"

THE O'JAYS: "Back Stabbers" - "For The Love Of Money" - "Livin' For The Weekend" - "I Love Music" - "Love Train"

BILLY PAUL: "Me & Mrs. Jones" - "People Power"

LOU RAWLS: "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine"

THE MODULATIONS: "I Can't Fight Your Love"

MAJOR HARRIS: "Each Morning I Wake Up" - "Love Won't Let Me Wait"

THREE DEGREES: "When Will I See You Again" - "Dirty Old Man" - "Year Of Decision"

ECSTASY, PASSION, & PAIN: "Good Things Don't Last Forever"- "Ask Me" - "Touch & Go"

BLUE MAGIC: "Look Me Up" - "Welcome To The Club" - "Sideshow" - "Magic Of The Blue"

THE SPINNERS: "I'll Be Around" - "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" - "Then Came You"

SONS OF ROBIN STONE: "Got To Get You Back"

FANTASTIC JOHNNY 'C': "Waiting For The Rain"

FREE SPIRIT: "I'm Gonna Love You Just As Long As I Can"

ELI'S SECOND COMING: "Love Chant"

RICHIE FAMILY: "Brazil"

MFSB: "Love Is The Message" - "TSOP" - "Sexy" - "T.L.C." - "K-Jee"

MIGHTY CLOUDS OF JOY: "Time" - "Mighty Clouds" - "Mighty High"

THE WHISPERS: "Bingo" - "Once More With Feeling" - "One For The Money"

LOLEATTA HOLLOWAY: "Runaway" - "Hit & Run" - "Dreaming" - "Catch Me On The Rebound" - "Love Sensation"

DOUBLE EXPOSURE: "Ten Percent" - "My Love Is Free" - "Everyman" - "Got The Hots For You"

SALSOUL ORCHESTRA: "Tangerine" - "Salsoul Hustle" - "Nice & Nasty" - "Magic Bird Of Fire" - "Chicago Bus Stop/Ooh I Love It"

FIRST CHOICE: "Armed & Extremely Dangerous" - "Smarty Pants" - "The Player" - "Newsy Neighbors" - Doctor Love" - "Let No Man Put Asunder" - "Double Cross" - "Love Thang"

EDDIE HOLMAN: "This Will be A Night To Remember"

LOVE COMMITTEE: "Law & Order" - "Cheaters Never Win"

ANTHONY WHITE: "Block Party"

MONTANA: "Heavy Vibes"

and their labor of love, their personal favorite, the group that was their personal reason to keep it going:

THE FABULOUS TRAMMPS: "Zing Went The Strings" - "Rubberband" - "Hold Back The Night" - "Love Epidemic" - "Where Do We Go From Here" - "Trusting Heart" - "Shout" - "Stop & Think" - "Hooked For Life" - "That's Where The Happy People Go" - "Disco Party" - "Soul Searchin' Time" - "Can We Come Together" - "Body Contact Contract" - "Disco Inferno" - "Where Were You When The Lights Went Out"

Did I miss any?? I know I did, I just can't think; I am overloaded with this beautiful music.

At The Playhouse in 1975 we decided to make some money and a big splash to our competition we looked to get a 'live' Disco group to play at the club. We looked on the list and the cheapest band we could get was The Trammps.

Crown Heights Affair was too expensive-->$1600 for one night, but The Trammps were only $1100. Even though at the time they had only 4 singles out, the crowd loved them and we knew we would draw that night.

I actually thought that it would be just 4-5 dudes that would come up and lip-synch their music or sing to an instrumental track the most.
What happened that night was simply incredible!!!

All the above mentioned guys plus 8 more (16 in all) came with ALL their instruments; baby grand piano included.
They played their hits and everybody else's hits too.
Jimmy Ellis sang an incredible "I Love Music"
and Robert Upchurch did a fabulous "Time" (Mighty Clouds song).
They did "Sexy", "Love Train", "If You Don't Know Me By Now"
THEY KICKED IT!! That's when I really found out who they were.
All for $1100 dollars. About $66 a piece minus the gas from the ride from Philly to The Bronx. That's a real labour of love!!!!

These guys were the bomb---They never got their just props!!!!
So here is to my fav group of all time----->ORIGINAL MFSB-TRAMMPS-SALSOUL ORCHESTRA

Jay The Guru is right. But you did leave out a ton of their stuff. More to come on that. BTW, you got them very cheap. I booked them to perform in at least TEN Dance Hall Parties, and they played four one hour sets, and got a cool $5000 from me! At The Copacabana, they played many, many times, and were paid $2500. But, that was "chicken feed" because the show they gave was priceless! Only my personal favorites, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band put on a better show, they had the whole ZOOT SUIT thing, and the dancing, half-naked girls behind them(later on called The Coconuts). But for pure music and DISCO, no-one beat THE TRAMMPS!!

These guys rocked. I saw them a few times when they came up to Boston. The place was full of fags, but that did not phase them. They jammed! The drummer was one of the very best ever. Love the guy with the heavy bass voice!
