Funny Stuff Paul! I think you had every right to have a crush on her, she was a FOX! Very sexy, very pretty. I would have loved to meet her! I got a friend who is FANATICAL about ABBA. He knows them personally! Has over 400 records of ABBA. In many different languages, 7", 12", LPS, CDS, you name it, he has it!- Wish I could get him on this site.

ABBA was a pop band, I always liked 'em! They did not make Disco but there are a few trax that can do magic on a floor! My favourite is the Disconet remix of "Lay all your love on me". It was hard to find over here and the version by The Bank with their Official Bootleg mix was extremely popular. In case you wonder, they both sound almost exactly the same.

"Voulez-Vous" in it's extended Us Version is a great stomper too and "Summer Night City" always gives me visions of scantilly clad Swedish girls called Inga saying naughty things like.... (I know some Swedish dirty talk but I'm not gonna embarrass Claes with it). Well, it sounds like "Gimme gimme a man after midnight"

Image

As for "Mamma Mia" the movie, sorry, not my cup of tea.

Abba was/is an iconic, timeless, eternal disco act. That is a fact.

I kinda like "Voulez-Vous" during the bits where they shout "aha!" and once played those on top of "Come On And Do It" by Poussez.

Starr inc, not my idea of entertainment either, this film. My wife dragged me to watch it. I can see the attraction and of course Abba did make quality music in their time, like it or not. I was never too crazy about it, though, something about the teary seriousness of the ballads especially, could never get into that stuff at all. But hey to each his own. - It would have been interesting if at the Stockholm premiere the Royal entourage and the stars would have been escorted thru wrong doors, ending up seeing "Diary of the Dead" instead. Zombies having their heads blown off in gory detail are in my opinion much more entertaining. I'm sure Silvia The Queen would have appreciated Diary, she was always a fun gal wasn't she.

Jussi, I'm a fair guy, so I thought, let's watch the trailer again and see if the magic happens. Ehmm, it didn't, hearing Meryl Streep sing was enough to push the exit button and when good ol' Pierce Brosnan joined in the chant, the only thing I could think about was: "Man, where are the times that your head was being crushed between the heavenly thighs of Famke Janssen?"

The sugar that is dripping from this movie is unbearable and when they sing: "Mamma Mia, Here I Go Again", the only thing I could think was: "Cool, Vaya Con Dios And Please Don't Come Back"!

But you gave me a great idea for a remake of the "Witchfinder General". Imagine, the witch is caught, she's being burned and then she starts singing: "Thank You For The Music...." Now, THAT would be cool, Pythonesque and of course irresistebly SICK! But COOL....

Do you remember THERE'S SOMETHING GOING ON by Frieda in 1982 or so. Not a great track, but I sure played it!

Pete,

Do you recall that Frida's "There's Something Going On" was produced by Phil Collins?? You can hear that in the drums I would say...
Great track !
She also had a minor hit with a track called "Shine" (which was released in White vinyl).

About the same time (or the summer before/after - can't recall) Agneta had a huge his in Sweden called "The Heat Is On" - a great summer hit.

Thanks for reminding me - I gotta to pull them out... :D

There are commercials on TV, posters next to the road, flyers,...Everywhere you see, you see Mamma Mia, but I really do not feel the need to go & watch the movie...

If you hear an ABBA song, you can sing-a-long. They stay in the memory, but that's it. I think ABBA is ok ,but I don't feel as it's really authentic DISCO. "Does you mother know", is my favorite ABBA song, but again, this is no DISCO, for me.

I guess ABBA is more Pop-music to me, similar as artists like Tom Jones, Don McLean, Frankie Vallie & many many others...

No I did not know that PHIL COLLINS was the producer. You are right, the drums were a huge part of that track! It was very mixable!!---- As for POP, FRANKIE VALLI? Not in the States, he was all DISCO in 1974-79. He never stopped those years. Always performing in Discos up and down the East Coast. TOM JONES?? Yeah, he was POP, but he got so much pussy!!

That was a huge hit over here too. Agnetha also scored big here with "Wrap your arms around me".

Wasn't that Frida track big on Miami Vice?

Now, that's a great movie. Gives a very good picture of the Disco era although it was made "recentlty".

And, Mr. Denis, what song is also featured in that pic?
