Now it would be cool if I spoke French, but I don't. What is he talking about? I realize it is about Clubs, and he mentions STUDIO 54, but that is all. Maybe KoolChris can help!!

This is the translation:
"In February 1979, I knew the "54" (I was 19) and I have never found their unique sound elsewhere.
In Paris, where I lived, I regularly went to the "Palace" and the "7". From my home the Palace was just in walking distance and I went there 2-3 times a week. The public was less extravagant then at the "54" but they were more elegant. You could see all kind of people but the public was mainly gay. The music, however, was not as interesting as in the "54". The New York vibes were technically better and had better arrangements.
The "7" was a gay club and the music there was the best of all Paris. The Discos, mentioned by Amanda Lear in her famous tune, "Chez Régine" and the "Jimmy's" had an older and and richer audience but they were boring. No, really, it was the "54" I preferred and thank you for that club!"
Pete, this reminds me of the track by Nightschool: "Do You Speak French-Parlez-vous Français"! Very funny and enjoyable record.

Starr Inc., I thank you, always wanted to know what he said. And it was well worth the wait. I did not know that they talked French in Funkytown!! Do you think that I ever played "Night School"? In 1977 I played one night a week in a DISCO in mid-town Manhattan named LE COCU, a European, French Club that played 15 minutes of slow French ballads at 45 after the hour, every hour, all night long!! I played it there, I think?? Too many moons ago and too much drugs to be certain. Great thing about LE COCU was that I got to play "Je T'aime" by Jane Birkin and that Gainsberg guy. Forgot his first name, was it Sean or Muhammed ???

Serge Gainsbourg: "Je T'aime (Moi Non Plus)" Later covered by Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder on the "Thank God It's Friday" soundtrack. Still a classic and BITD it was considered as very, very raunchy as the lyrics went really far.

"Je T'aime" - great track...
I love both versions mentioned (both the Jean+Serge and the Donna+Giorgio ones), but did you know that Serge also recorded this track with actress Birgitte Bardot ?!
I actually got that record somewhere - will have to pull it out to see when it was recorded...
Disco-on !

Yes, he originally recorded the song with Bardot in 1967 but she didn't want it to be released as she had just married. If you want to hear it, it's on this album:
But in 1986 her (and thus the original) version was re-released without much succes.

Starr,
That may be true, BUT!!! What a cover!! She was so HOT!! And a simply fantastic ballad. My ALL-TIME FAVORITE SLOW SONG!!! JeT'aime Mon Nu Pluis--- French is sexy as it is, add Bridgette Bardot or Jane Birkin, moaning, it gets sexual quickly!!

I keep repeating myself but here's another bit of shameless advertising: for some authentic Le Palace flava come to Paris on August 9th. 2008. Le Palace is no longer there but the Nouveau Casino is going strong at Rue Oberkampf, and that's where djs Lemmings, Aicha and yours truly will be paying hommage to the Palace sound with tracks by Macadam and other Guy Cuevas faves. Like always we WILL rock the house, pound the eurobeats thru your skull and reduce you to a quivering (but happy) wreck! www.discoqueer.com www.jussikantonen.com

Le Palace has reopened now and has been totally restored. Just like the "54" it has been given it's original destination back. It's a theatre now.

Salut les gars! I'm interested in continuing the conversation about LE 7 on rue sainte anne. I frequented le 7 back in 77 and 78 and it was the best disco music in the world. Does anyone know of any playlists or dj's?
I remember going for the first time and seeing the glassed-in DJ booth. Village People's Sanfransico/Hollywood had just come out--summer of 78(?). I remember it as a smallish club, with spotlights all around, but it was incredible.
