Well, there are so many sub-genres within electronic music, the question whether that splitting of genres is really necessary is another queestion, but I think the difference between disco and nu-disco is big enough to be able to differ between the two. AND, I think it's a very new, fresh and interesting style!

I think it's interesting with nu-Disco - but sometimes it's hard to tell different styles apart.
As Ray says - most of this is danceable music with a Disco touch (as many of today's acts use Disco samples) no matter if you call it House, Disco-House, RnB.
To me it seems the nu-Disco might often be more into the Spacey/Cosmic sound and probably also the more Jazzy end of Disco... But you also seems to recognize things for the Euro/Italo/Spanish side of electronic Disco from the early/mid 80's. With the Synths and stuff...
But again - that's just what I feel and I'm just as new to genre this as nu-Disco itself...

I agree with you Discoguy, it's not easy to define the styles specifically. Very many styles were influenced by disco, but I don't really like all of them. I like some funky house and deephouse. I don't like r&b much, but I like some italo-disco stuff. As for genres like hardhouse, well, that stuff is just way off in my opinion. I don't think styles like r&b and house sound as similar to the classical disco as nu-disco does.

You're right about nu-disco having a more spacey/cosmic sound, I guess that's why some people call it space disco.

What is really cool about the sets that nu-disco artists play, is that they vary between different styles, you never know what's coming next, but you know it's gonna be good :)

Praised this track a while back as it was a big hit in Uk clubs this summer past. Its an re-working of the FRANKIE VALLIE track "BEGGIN". What follows is the 2008 Disco Remix...

MADCON - "BEGGIN" (DEMOLITION DISCO REMIX 2008)

It's not what I would call nu-disco, but more of a typical pop house track. That track has been remixed by very many people, hehe.

"Back, in the day", when "disco" was young; disco came in many flavors. There was the Philly Sound, Motown R&B driven Chocolate Flavor. The New York Sound, more like Chocolate Fudge, the Miami flavor, Rum-Raisin or COCOA flavor. The British was Vanilla. Then Italo-Disco was what, say Strawberry Crumb flavor. A great taste BTW. In fact, they all were, and together, were collectively, "DISCO". So what I am seeing, reading, and watching. Not much has changed. Just the names of the flavors. Some believe this flavor tastes like real "disco". And others over here, think that their flavor tastes more like "disco" Well, like I said, nothing really changed there! Guys, it all equals one thing, "DISCO". All this "nuDisco" is just another flavor, with a lot of ingredients. So call this one ROCKY ROAD, or whatever. It is just another form of DISCO, which in fact, never died, just changed flavors!!-- That was a little of a rant!! As for the videos I just seen. One was great, the other three mediocre. "I'm Beggin" was a hit 40 years ago, and I love this song. PERIOD!! If I was in a club, this song would be on my nightly rotation, getting a new, different sounding version every night. I would remix this to death, but it would take years before"Beggin" died in my dance floor!

They even used BEGGIN in that interview! They said basically, what I said!
NuDisco is just another term. One that I like!

People who try to replicate sounds/styles from earlier usually fail. I guess you need to have the sense of the scene and athmosphere that was present at that particular time.

Mike, there simply wasn't anything very good there. I might be wrong, it does happen on occasion. But, it was 24 poor songs. The actual "topic" of the songs themselves, sounded like someone trying to"Mass Produce" song disco music. Reminds me of early 1980, when nothing but garbage songs were being released by the record companies. That still happens, I see!
