SONG OF THE NIGHT
We all know that MAN does a terrific job at SONG OF THE DAY;
We need it & We love it.

But now it's close to "After Hours" time and we need to chill, talk, smoke (whatever), and you need a different slant---you still want to dance, but you want to get sleazy, or funky!

Well this will be SONG OF THE NIGHT.
For the downbeat, downtown, part of the disco.

NO VIDEO--NO PICTURES--Remember this is coming from Bedrock Studios!
It's early in the morning---you can't see anyway---just listen.

These are songs that NOT just anybody will play in a club.
Some clubs stayed at 130 BPMs all night. But on this thread we will change it up!

This artist is responsible (with his brother) for over 40 top 10 songs from the mid-'60's to the mid-'70's.

He wrote & produced (check this out):

"WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO"
"I CAN'T HELP MYSELF (SUGAR PIE HONEY BUNCH)"
"BABY LOVE"
"REACH OUT-I'LL BE THERE"
"YOU KEEP ME HANGIN' ON"
"BAND OF GOLD"
"JIMMY MACK"
"(I KNOW) I'M LOSING YOU"
"HEATWAVE"
"HEAVEN MUST HAVE SENT YOU" - (yes that one)

and 30 more!!!!

His first real outing as a solo artist came in 1978.

His name is LAMONT DOZIER.

This is the 12" version of "GOING BACK TO MY ROOTS"

Now, this is a winding down the night song! This is the best you could do? I'll take it. But I rarely played this, at anytime! Doesn't mean I did not like the song, I did. Good Start! Good Night!

All the songs are probably gonna be winding down to you.
Where I come from it's just boiling over!!!
To me The After-Hours just opened!!! Even MAN & SoulBoy are here!!

Anyway the DJ here sounds a little like you Pete.
He's even playing a live remix of the song--double copys and all:

Yeah Jay, you played this song didn't you? In the after hour clubs I worked at, It was hard core, heavy duty Disco to death until 7:30 AM. I would not even THINK of playing this! Do not own it, don't want it either! But, I am an ass@#$% sometimes!

***SONG OF THE NIGHT***

NO NO, MAN! This is not the 'CHILL / LOUNGE' thread.

When Dave Grusin came on half the patrons in the After-Hours went to the back room to play poker, (and lose their shirts by the way) and the other half went home with their mates to make love.

We still want to dance if we are able & IF the groove moves you.

Yes a Down-beat, A FUNK-beat. Not 'NO' beat!

Tonight we will offer one of the under-appreciated, under-rated, shakers & movers of Disco/Soul/Dance:

He had a hand (singing, producing, playing keyboards, mentoring) in many Disco/Dance Classics, such as:

"MAINLINE"-Black Ivory
"LET'S DO IT"-Convention
"I KNOW YOU WILL"-Logg
"WEEKEND"-Phreek
"MOMENT OF MY LIFE"-Inner life/Jocelyn Brown
"RELEASE YOURSELF"-Fantastic Aleems
"BIG TIME"-Rick James
and more!

Tonight here is: LEROY BURGESS (with the FANTASTIC ALEEMS)

"HOOKED ON YOUR LOVIN" (Rick Gianatos Mix)

You are playing all this dark, soul, that just don't do it for me! I'm going to Sammy's, get hi, listen to CHANGE, and some Cerrone. Maybe dance a little, and pick up a "coke whore". Later!

"HOOKED ON YOUR LOVIN" (Rick Gianatos Mix)

Great track. Used to hammer this for my crowds in the straight clubs but they usually didn't get it. :?

This track actually worked better in the gay clubs in Australia. 8)

Lamont Dozier - Goin' Back To My Roots.

Was to young to play this in a club when it came out but it made many an appearance in morning sets I've done over the years. :)

This track always evokes good memories for me & a sense of freedom & release. :D

Thanks also for the "Jay Goes Back To His Roots Mix" as I like to call it. :)
