Jay's Favorite singer made a few "remakes". Viola Wills gave us at least two.-- Jay loved and played the hell out of STORMY WEATHER, and he would do his own remix to it too! But his all-time favorite song was UP ON THE ROOF . Now I know for a fact that he played it three or four times a night for about five years!! She may have even had a few more, JAY knows for sure!! LOL

I already mentioned this song in another thread but maybe not a lot of people know that Phylicia Allen's "Two Loves Have I" is a remake of Josephine Baker's (Yes, the real Josephine Superstar) "J'ai Deux Amours" from....1950!

I'll give 'em back2back here, starting with the original:

and then the Disco rendition:

Talk about going Disco!! SINGING IN THE RAIN by Shelia B Devotion from 1976 or 77. This was so disco, that [people ridiculed the disco movement. Personally, I played it as often as I could, because it was pure disco!!

I found one right here on this site! The Whispers 1976 release, I WANNA MAKE IT WITH YOU. I never heard this until someone posted this. BREAD had a huge hit with this in the 60's.

Hey, as I was looking around, I found one you did not mention here, but I saw that Pete was looking for this song.- STRANGER IN PARADISE by the late, ISSAC HAYES! This was a really big hit, I heard it all the time at New York radio stations.

Alright, two, can play that game. I posted somewhere that I wanted this record. POP COLLAGE MEDLEY, that has POPCORN, and NA-NA-NA-NA-HEY-HEY-HEY GOOD BYE sung by Miss PATTI BROOKS. This was a huge song in 1977. It always packed the dance floors, and WBLS burned it out!

They really rocked that song! I too, really love it. I saw them in concert once, it was 1980, BIRMINGHAM, Alabama! The red necks went nuts over it. Shit they were playing with Cherry Bombs, and the look on the REDBONE native musicians was absolute fear! They thought that these cowboys were gunning for their Indian asses!! Great song. One of my favorites as well.
