What a question Mikey!!
That remix on "Paid In Full" was the ONE TO PLAY back in the day!!!!
I have a 12" on Island Records with that version.
I never heard the regular mix on the flip.
The "Coldcut" mix was the only one to play.

Eric B. & Rakim still think it as an insult????
Can't be---No Way!!
They gotta realize history man!!

Look where all the samples came from!!!

I remember that everyone was playing this remix and not the original version of "Paid In Full"!!!A very fine remix with a smart use of samples, one of the best works done by the Coldcut!!!

I remember Eric B & Rakim's comments well on this remix. They were so upset at the time, that they even threatened to walk from there lable. They did not want to be associated in any shape or form with all the House/Dance music that was exploding all over the US and Europe at the time. They thought that the Coldcut remix put them in this bracket. They were Hip-Hop to the bone and that is how they wanted to be percieved.
I think over the years, there opinion has mellowed....probaly down to the fact that they earned some serious $$$$$'s from that remix.....Infact you could certainly say that they definitly got

I think what Coldcut did to this track was what really made it a hit...
It was cool to see the link and get to hear all the samples...
Thanks Soul-Boy !

I think most people know the story of how Gloria Gaynor's worldwide smash was originally a 'B' Side that was picked up by the dj's because they did not think much of Gloria's 'A' contribution "Subsitute".
"Subsitute" was originally a hit for the Rightgeous Brothers but it was also covered by the all girl group Clout about a year before Gloria covered it. To tell you the truth, I have always prefered Clout's version to Gloria's but that's niether here or there as we are talking about a slice of disco history here!..So let's give "Subssitute" the props it deserves and making it the Song Of The Day...

Very cool... Hadn't heard the "Baby Blue" track before...

Regarding "Substitute"... Recall the Bond chick Izabella Scorupco from the Golden Eye movie? She's a Polish born Swede and she also had a brief recording career and made a version of the track...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcwhPref-WA

She also made a cover of "Shame Shame Shame"...

Now I was never a big fan of European house music but the following track used to shake the dancefloor up no ends! This could have easily sat in the Old School Classic House thread but I wanted to make it my SOTD instead...I loved it, see what you think!..
