Strange list....
Shouldn't Bee Gees, Michael Jackson/Jackson 5/Jacksons be on there as well? Or what are they listing - number of weeks in the charts or number of hits over this period ?
As you guys say - how the **** did Bohannon get up that high ?! Beats me...

They compiled it by # of weeks, how high each entry went, # of hits.

I did some more research and The BeeGees were represented by 2 chart entries. "YOU SHOULD BE DANCING" and "SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (all cuts)".
That's why; they lumped all the hits together. (Bad charting in those days.

Bohannon had 5 entries "KEEP ON DANCIN", "DISCO STOMP", "AFRICAN SYMPHONY", "LET'S START THE DANCE", and "FOOTSTOMPING MUSIC"---all makin the top 10. (I can't lie, I used to play them all)

The Jacksons had "FOREVER CAME TODAY" ('75) and "SHAKE YOUR BODY" in the latter part of '79.
Michael makes more of an impact in the '80s list.

Did France Joli ever make it to the charts?

Truth be told, I have played her first 2 albums until the grooves wore out. I was just glad to finally get them on CD at long last!

I am pretty sure that France Joli came out in 1980, so she did not make the 70's chart. She was a little pup in 1970 wasn't she. I broke that album nationwide when I ran the Florida Record pool. I escorted her to a big function in Miami that year. She was a little LOLITA!!

I didn't graduate high school until 1980 and I remember her first album being very popular in my junior or senior year.

Mike, it must have been your senior year, because I am 100% certain that it was the summer of 1980 when that album came out. I could never forget the little time I spent with her!!

All charts are full of crap!! They are all so biased. They are a way of promotion!! I can't stand charts, at all!

I know memories fade, and the years melt into each other so I would like to say (after a lil research) that France Joli's first album (the one with "COME TO ME") came out in Summer of 1979.
Her 2nd LP (with "FEEL LIKE DANCIN") came out in the Spring of 1980. And "GONNA GET OVER YOU" came out in 1981.

I have a problem with my memory too, (only 2 brain cells left, and they never touch) so I looked it up!

I think The O'Jays would have been over Tavares. And how did Carol Douglas get higher than all those artists based on 2 songs? ("DOCTOR'S ORDERS" & "MIDNIGHT LOVE AFFAIR")
I think she should be behind First Choice, The O'Jays, Tavares and Loleatta Holloway! They had much more. Dan Hartman did too.

Just 1 man's opinion.

Jay mi parner, you are so very right. It was in the summer of 1979, when that beautiful 15 year-old Lolita came down here to Miami. I remember that Bo Crane, the Godfather of Miami's Disco scene, chose me to escort France to her coming out Party. See, I pushed that first album to all the deejays at the record Pool. It broke first in Miami, I got the honors. Believe me guys, I kept my hands off her, made sure everyone else did too. Best part of the night, the three kisses I received from that little babe!! BTW- I thought you hated that Dan Hartman stuff!

You see Jay, I put as much time into that LIST, as you do pouring sugar into your Bustelo every morning. So in my haste I may be off a little, look at it this way, it is more accurate then the BILLBOARD Charts! Plus, CAROL was so attractive and cute in those days!! You know who should have been in a chart somewhere, somehow?-- Van McCoy & The Stylistics, just for all that early great music that was played, but before those BILLBOARD Charts ever existed!

That is a fact. Those Charts were way off to what was really happening. I just use them to jog the memory!!
We both can come up with enough IMPORTANT artists to fill another 40 slots:
Brothers Johnson, James Brown, Sylvester, C.J. & Company, Bionic Boogie, KC & The Sunshine Band, Rick James, just to name a few, not on either of our lists, but just as deserving!
