Karen Young , Hot Shot
Phyllis Hyman, you Know How to Love Me
2 of the best right there, wasn't there also a Dick Hyman ( unfortunate name...) Love those jams and you really need to hear them out on a good club system to really appreciate them

Dick Hyman??
MY LOVE SUPREME was a HUGE hit for Milton Hamilton. Probably his biggest hit. I played that song constantly for over a year.
HOT SHOT was a really great song. One of m,y favorites, to this day!
And Phyllis Hyman was a Miami native, who could only be really appreciated LIVE!! If you love her vocals recorded, Imagine how awe-inspiring she was on stage!!

Tangerue - Tangerue LP. 1979
There was a track on this LP called "Doin' Your Own Thing"
The production on this track is some of the sweetest I've ever heard.
Bruce Weedin is a master producer. If you want more proof of that you can listen to his engineering skills & bass playing on the Beautiful Bend LP.
It stood the test of time for years whenever I played it.
Underated, definitely.
If you have the time, go check this gem out.

I had it, may still own it. Did I play it? I must have, it is not furniture. But in all honesty. It didn't really turn me on, or I certainly would remember it, wouldn't I??

My friend Miss Aicha of Paris spins EVERY NIGHT EVERY DAY from the Tangerue lp a lot in her parties, to packed floors. Quite the track. I myself never saw the record in stores when it was new, one of those that got away.
But HOT SHOT sure was all over the place. Was that really underrated anywhere when it came out? I thought it shot like a bullet right to the top of the Billboard charts and performed exceptionally well the world over. It was a sales chart hit in many countries too. In the Paradise Garage book Mel Cheren described the realese as a massive success. I don't think the song has been underrated recently, either, there was a while ago an energy drink ad on tv that used it, shown all thru Europe: remember, the near naked devils grooving to it in hell? Most "retro" parties also give you the track and it's still getting re-realesed in the "best of Disco" comps that they churn out every year.

I love all that music---I think some of them were out & out monster hits, maybe not on the charts, but on the dance floor & radio, like: Dreaming You Are You Are Mainline Love Injection Keep Smilin' Wear It Out I'm Caught Up In A One Night Love Affair Hot Butterfly Smack Dab In The Middle We Got The Funk
All of these you can hear in the car, on the radio, at the club (commercial clubs too). These songs did not suffer from any exposure in the NYC market when they were released. They were on EVERY DJ's playlist! I cannot say for other areas or other countries.
All in all this is a good list and there are many more to be added. Thanks 'G'!!!

Dancer,
AWESOME list of "overlooked" classics... Every single one of them are great Disco classics, but probably not known to everyone just because they didn't make it in the charts. But they are great GEMS for us Disco lovers...
WOW !
