I got a song, that was huge, but yet, when we talk about all-time great songs, this one is never talked about. RICK JAMES,"Super Freak". This song was the music to many others. And we seem to forget how really great it was, under-rated!

Under-rated? There should be a picture of Arpeggio next to that word in the dictionary! They were huge while they were around. That LOVE & DESIRE album was spectacular! My favorite song was never released as a single. RUNAWAY was the best remake of an old song in the Disco era. But that discussion is for a new thread!

I thought Wanda 'Star' Williams - Mr. U.F.O. was rather underrated, it's a real groover.

Does anybody know what happened to her?

Call Me Naive, but I don't know who she is. Tell me more about her.

I don't know anything about her except this: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Wanda+Wil ... 2+Williams

Here's a sample of mr. u.f.o.: http://www.zshare.net/audio/173517035bc6738f/

It's a remake, but very similar to the original. The original is a bit faster, has a chorus, and more vocals.

Thank You, that was enough to jog the cobwebs loose in my brain. I believe that this Wanda Williams was a studio session singer at TK Records for a few years, finally getting a few records of her own including MR UFO which I never played. But others, especially FRANKIE HOLLYWOOD here in Miami did play.As to this song being UNDER-RATED? Conjecture, speculation. MAYBE!! I was not a real big fan, so I am probably the wrong guy to answer. Let's see what JAY has to say?

That version is on http://www.discogs.com/release/374698 along with some other remakes, Punkin Machine - I Need You Tonight amongst others. Nice track that also.

Never heard of her. Looked her up in the Billboard Dance Book = Nothing!
Looked her up in Allmusic.com = Nothing!
Like Paul Jabara sings in "DISCO QUEEN":
"Whooooooo is she? Whoooooooooooooooo is she?"
Must be an import!

PETE'S NOTE:: Actually she is from South Florida!
She had a couple of TK releases at
the end of the TK glory days, circa
1980-81.

Taana Gardner's 'heartbeat'

before the hip-hop kids stole the bassline & Queen had a huuuuuge hit with a remake of it called 'another one bites the dust'...check that bassline

Kenton Nix wrote that famous tune and bassline, and Levan made it big in The Garage. But was it a hit elsewhere?? Did other DJ's pick it up??

I love the downtempo groove of this tune, always great to start or interupt a set with this one imo

My goodness YES!! This song was fantastic, exceptional! It certainly is a hell of a groove. I used to speed it up a little, and it was great on my dance floor. A second copy only added to all the excitement. Songs like that are far and few in between. The best thing, even with all the imitations and covers of it, this version, the original is still the best one!!

Yes sir. You are so right! That was a great song to just grove to. And I heard a few times what Pete was talking about. Not just by him, but by many deejays who extended it live, and the results, besides being stimulating, were that the dance floor overflowed!- Can't do it much better then that HEARTBEAT!!!

But I have an even more obscure song that was great. And very underrated!! That is MADE IN THE USA, a song on the Delite Label, called "Melodies". Excellent jam. The horns, the guitars, the reversing of the tape, years ahead of their time.

PETE'S NOTE:: Actually Brother, everyone's got it, it is posted and there is a link to it a few posts above!! LOL

While when it first came out, it was played everywhere, by everyone. GIRL, PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME WAIT TOO LONG by Patti Brooks has been mostly overlooked. The orchestration by the Simon Orchestra rocks. The string are amazing, and the gypsy-type fiddle is excellent. A real classic that is underrated.

That was my jam for so long. Not a great audience response except for After Hours Clubs.

It was sampled in '02 by British DJ Duo called M&M (not to be confused with US' Morales & Munzabi) on a song they called "IF YOU WANNA"---they also used Loleatta's scream from "Hit & Run" on the track.

Good stuff if U can find it!!!

Jay,
You got the duo and the title of the record wrong,.so thats why you cound'nt trace it my friend....here you go!...
