The original "MacARTHUR PARK" was done by Richard Harris (yes THAT Richard Harris, the actor) in 1968. It was a ballad with a super uptempo 2 minute break in the middle. I really dug it when it came out. Went out and bought the 45, when I was 12 yrs old.

When I first heard Donna's cover I was a little let down because the original was so great. Also it got played out cause I had to play it every night at Tropicalia for at least 8 months. It was a floor filler, a huge request (I didn't take requests but I still had to listen) and also it was a bathroom break.

But when I heard The Pet Shop Boys' "NEW YORK CITY BOY" (great song) in 2000 I really appreciated Donna's version a little more. ("NYC BOY" uses a kick ass sample from Donna's version.)

Post subject:  Great Song

I was listening to Donna Summer yesterday, and TRY ME I KNOW WE CAN MAKE IT was one of the songs I was listening to. I have a soft spot in my heart for Donna. Everything she ever put out I loved. But TRY ME, I KNOW WE CAN MAKE IT is special because, that is when I was growing up as a person and a deejay. I still remember certain instances when I was playing it. So I can relate to your choice. Great one!
