Without a doubt, the BEST ARTWORK EVER was on the early OSIBISA Albums. Their music was instrumental too, as I and many other deejays played a lot of music off those albums. But the flying elephants were fantastic, weren't they? Mow MANDRILL had decent covers too, but their music better than decent. They too had a few early records played.-- As for I'LL BAKE ME A MAN, I have heard 74, 73 even 72 as the year it was getting Club play. I played it, but too many burned out brain cells to remember exactly when. This was early DISCO!

I still have many to com as these collections from 1974 and maybe 1 or 2 from 1975

2-REACH OUT I'LL BE THERE - FOUR TOPS
3-MACHINE GUN – COMMODORES
4-BRASILIA CARNAVAL - LES CHOCOLATS
5-SALSOUL HUSTLE - THE SALSOUL ORCHESTRA
6-THAT'S THE WAY I LIKE IT - KC & SUNSHINE BAND
7-LOW OF THE LAND - THE TEMPTATIONS
8-FUNKY WEEKEND - THE STYLISTICS

Hey,
Someone finally mentioned "Brasilia Carnival"! Now we are talking! That was a fantastic PARTY record. It was never even close to getting RADIO play, but at one point was one of the most popular songs in The Big Apple! A PRIMETIME player that always packed the dance floor! Love It!! Good One MAN!!

Sorry Jr. but I have the LP right in front of me with THE "IN" CROWD on it, and Dobie Grey's name next to it. Yes he also sang the ballad DRIFT AWAY. Now unless it is a typographical error, I have THE IN CROWD by him!! But I remember also RAMSEY LEWIS' had one. But I don't have that one!! I will show the record when I see you!!--

"DANCE DANCE DANCE" was the first single released by CHIC. It was released to DJs on a Buddah Records 12" promo in July 1977. It was heavily played but Buddah didn't want to promote it OR didn't have the money to promote it and sold the master to Atlantic. They released it in August '77 followed by the album in September, which had 2 more hits: "EVERYBODY DANCE" & "YOU CAN GET BY". By the middle of '78, CHIC was a disco household name. The Album cuts & the original single sold over 1/2 million and was #1 on the Disco Charts for 8 weeks!!

The group consisted of Nile Rodgers (guitar, banjo), Bernard Edwards (bass), Tony Thompson (drums), Luci Martin & "Norma Jean" Wright.(vocals)
Bernard & Nile went on to produce 2 mega-hits for Sister Sledge during the Disco Era-->"He's The Greatest Dancer" & "We Are Family".
Norma Jean had some sucess as a solo act her best showing in '78 with "SATURDAY"/"HAVING A PARTY"

CHIC's other hits include:
"LE FREAK"--"I WANT YOUR LOVE"--"CHIC CHEER"--GOOD TIMES"--MY FEET KEEP DANCING"--MY FORBIDDEN LOVER"

Nile Rodgers went on to produce #1 club hits in the mid-80's for David Bowie:"LET'S DANCE", Duran Duran:"THE REFLEX", and The Thompson Twins:"LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME" among others. You can hear his trademark banjo in all his stuff.

I want to tell you about Brenton Wood's,"GIMME A LITTLE SIGN". It was the early 70's, it was very big, lot's of Radio Play, it was extremely popular. But it was so short. I went out and bought me a second 7" 45 Rpm record. Then when I was playing it. I would match the vocals when the song was ending and the other starting when he sang,"Just Gimme A Little Sign Girl, woo my baby" and extended the song. Some dancers realized that something was up, when the song did not end. I did it another time, now there was a look of wonder on their faces. This was my very first live Re-mix! It was December 0f 73. It was great, I was in love. You never forget your first!! I wonder, was there ever a 12 version of this song??
