Wow what a subject. Interesting because you have to define what disco is before you can search for the answer. Soul Makoosa is associated because it was one of the first imports licensed by a US company because of US club play. But you had Woman by Barrabas also licensed and Rain 2000 by Titanic also licensed. If you define disco by mix album then Gloria Gaynor is there. If you go by inst Love Unlimited is there as is Isaac Hayes. If you go by groups you have Trammps but First Choice was there before them. So it depends on what you define as disco. And don't forget if we go by what was played in clubs back then.... well the list would be long.

Hippie, I agree, this is some subject. About a year ago, less actually, I took a poll. Got an unbelievable amount of responses, and equally unbelievable number of titles. There was no resolution, actually. WHEN did Disco start has to be asked before we can ask this question. Because, there was music from the 60's that had a DISCO sound to them. As early as 1964! So it is certainly still open for debate!!

I love The Philly Sound----I love the original MFSB---I truly think that the music has evolved from that till today. From 50cts sampling The Trammps "Rubber Band" to Madonna singing "Music" over the music from "Disco Inferno" to Coldplay's new "Viva La Vida". If it has a beat, and it's exciting, I would play it!!! BOTTOM LINE.

I'm still gonna make my top 100 for '70-'75 and I will have it on Tuesday. (let me know if U are interested.)

Mr Negron

Did this list ever materialise ?...If not, you have your work cut out for you now as the Soul-Boy requests that you deliver on your promise and post for all to see. Thanks Jay!.....get to work!
