We're talking about what disco-ish stuff we liked during the early 70's or which early 70's tracks we like now? As a teenager I liked "Theme From Shaft" and "Co-Co" by The Sweet....
as for now, I think the following are quite something:

1. 69 Année Erotique - Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg ( ok it's late 60's, but it's the 1st eurodisco record )
2. Se A Gabo - James Last ( bongo mayhem from the amazing Voodoo Party lp)
3. The Stelvio Cipriani soundtracks from the early 70's Italian crime films, (wah wah guitars, cool strings, weird chords and widescreen scope)
4. Enter The Dragon - both original Lalo Schifrin version and the more danceable and more tight Percy Faith workout from his Corazon lp
5. Strip Nude For Your Killer/Nuda Per L'Assassino ost - more of those Shaft riffs, only sleazier
6. France Gall: ZoiZoi ( irresistibly bouncy early samba-disco hybrid)
7. Doobie Bros: Long Train Running
8. Astrud Gilberto: Beginnings ( a masterpiece, 30 yrs ahead of it's time)
9. Ennio Morricone: La Tarantola dall Ventre Nero ost
10. Piero Umiliani: 5 Bambole per Luna D'Agosto ost - the party montage

Jussi,

WOW - those tracks... I haven't heard any of them (except for the Doobie's). Where have you picked up all of those ? Seems like many of them might be Frensh and/or Italian ?! Correct ?
Would love to hear them... ;-)

Disco-on !

You figure I will be an expert on this, since I have done so much research into the subject, and I lived through it all as well. I heard Sly Stone being played in 1969 street parties in The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens(There was a Disco group by that name!), as well as in Jersey. So his music has to be a part of this.

QUICK LIST-- EARLY,EARLY 70's Classics!!
1) Spill The Wine- WAR
2) Dance To The music-SLY STONE
3) FUNKY NASSAU- forget who it was?
4) Rain 2000- TITANIC
5) Psychedelic Shack-THE TEMPTATIONS
6) Come And Get Your Love- REDBONE
7) Frankenstein/Free Ride- THE EDGAR WINTER BAND
8) Venus-THE SHOCKING BLUE
9) Soul Makossa- MANU DIBANGO
10)JUNGLE FEVER- THE CHAKACHAS

Then there was everything by Motown, the great music coming from Philadelphia, started by groups such as THE INTRUDERS and "I'll Always Love My Mama". The Englewood Cliffs of the Palisades Cliffs in Jersey gave us Shirley Robinson(Shame, Shame, Shame), The Stylistics(Love Is The Answer) The Moments(Girls) and Van McCoy(Soul Cha-Cha). This could go on for a while, so I will stop here. Might come back with more soon!
