Anyone get to go to this club. Way ahead of it's time. I got my first exposure to a club there. By the time I went Angel (RIP) was the house jock. But as long as I can remember the club was there. And I'm talkin late 60's early 70's. When I turned 13 I payed my first visit to the club (grammer school graduation). Life as I know it would never be the same. I believe Carlos was the DJ before Angel. Grew up in Jersey City so it seemed that El Central was always open. And the music wow. James Brown, Jimmy Castor, Shaft In Africa, Ipi Tombia, MFSB. That influenced my taste in music and I'm sure it's why I preferred to play black clubs.

I went to Ferris Pete. But El Central wasn't near Union it was in downtown Jersey City. On Jersey Ave if I remember correctly. A couple of blocks up from the Path train stop. Pato you're too funny.

LOL hey Pete yeah Union City is kinda of close to Jersey City (if you go uptown Jersey City you can get to Union City) but I meant in little kidz terms. LOL Remember I was 13 and not driving so close to me is walkin distance. Yeah I played football in Roosevelt Stadium. I use to hang in Grace Church as a kid (we had a cave downstairs that the church allowed us to hang in funky) and they had a gymnasium that Kool & The Gang use to practice in.

Yes after playing at at 2 guido clubs in the Bronx ('74-'76), and a Upscale/Brazilian club in Manhattan ('76-'80) I foinally found the freedom of working in a black club. At Pegasus I could play anything I wanted, NOT play anything I didn't want to (funkytown) and educate and experiment with the crowd with great responses.
I could go classics with them at any time: Staple Singers:"Respect Yourself", Donna's: "Love To Love You Baby", Cornelius Bros & Sister Rose: "It's Too Late To Turn Back Now", and then go new: Nick Straker:"Just A Little Bit Of Jazz" North End:"Happy Days", Bo Kool's "Money No Love". The crowd would go nuts to all good music!!
It helped that there were 'musical' artists & their friends that frequented the place. Ashford & Simpson lived across the street and would bring their friends there all the time. Valerie gave me a test pressing of Ullanda McCollough's "BAD COMPANY" while I was there. Phylis Hyman (RIP) was there alot also. Her "Tonight You & Me" was a staple there! Working there was a DJ's dream. I was there for over 18 months. They sold the building in '81 or '82, my memory escapes me.
