MAVJB I HAD SOME GAY FRIENDS TOO, GOOD PEOPLE AND THEY NEW ALL THE LADIES BECAUSE THEY WERE 1 OF THE GIRLS THENSELFS WHITCH WAS + FOR ME TO MEET LOTS OF GIRLS. I DONT MOCK ANY CLUBS GAY OR NOT LIKE YOU SAID WE ALL WENT OUT TO DANCE AND HAVE A GOOD TIME.

Well, basically I was never viewed as "one of the girls" and most people refused to believe that I was gay in those days. If anything, most of the females viewed me as a challenge that they could "change." In the end, we bonded well but they knew that nothing sexual was ever going to happen between us.

The real irony was that any time any of my female friends started dating someone, my gaydar would go off and I would warn them. Those who refused to believe me ended up with their hearts broken down the line when the guy finally "came out."

Call me a prude, but I don't have patience for people who have to live a lie in their lives. I say live and let live, just don't hurt anyone in the process.

JAY THE LIST OF CLUBS IN THE CITY IS TO LONG TO LIST ALL THE GOOD CLUBS WRER IN N.Y., THERE WAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE AND HAPPENING NIGHT AT DIFFERENT CLUBS, ALSO THERE WERE LOTS OF OTHER CLUBS IN N.J. TOO SMALLER BUT VERY GOOD, ONE OF MY FAVOR CLUBS THERE WAS A AFTER AHOUR CALLED CAMEOS DATING BACK TO 1978/79 WHERE AT THAT TIME THERE WAS THE SOAP FACTORY AND FIRE&ICE, THE MEDDLE BROOK,CREATIONS,NIGHT MOVES,AND MANY MORE. SO IT WAS NOT ALL BASE IN N.Y. BUT N.Y. WAS #1 ALL THE TIME WILL ALWAYS BE.

Post subject:  Plato's/Continental

I never went to 'Plato's' but before it was 'Plato's' it was called "Continental Baths". I used to go hear my boy Bacho Manguel spin there in '75. He used to play "Disco Tex" and the crowd would go F'in nuts!!! It was supposed to be a gay club, but many straits went there also. (not to bathe) Bette Midler played live there and afterwards it was 'the place to be'. After other clubs (The Anvil, Better Days) and disco in particular got popular it closed & reopened as "Plato's Retreat"

Post subject:  IPANEMA & THE COPACABANA

These were two pretty good ones, who tended to be pure Disco leaning to Latin style. Lots of Brazilian Carnival Music. It was a pretty steady crowd that returned every week. For Years!!

Post subject:  RUMORS!

I always heard "rumors" about the Copacabana, that it was a pure MOB club, that there were Goodfellas everywhere. I did not believe it. But on a Friday night, it was pure Guido's and Vito's everywhere I looked. Come to think of it, they were more of them on Fridays, but they were always there. And in the five years I patronized this place, whenever there was trouble, "security", the guys in the dark suits would remove the trouble through the deejay booth, and out into the alley. Sometimes into a back room. Then the suits were right back, blending into the crowd, and not seen. I never saw the ones that got removed there again. Never a Cop car either. It was a different type of place. But two things were constant, it was the best place to "pick up" women. And it was a great DISCO, with great music nightly! That is not a rumor!
