CHULO: Larry Levan was last seen hangin out with Barry White, Issaic Hayes, and Norman Harris, welcoming Norman Whitfield into the new club. He ain't comin' to the site any time soon. Only when we bring him in thru his music.

Yo Chulo, why you attacking? Hating? Ease up on the transmission. Slow it down. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Some people, including me, think that Larry Levan was a great deejay, a great remixer. But in a club, his mixing left a lot to be desired. We have a right to believe that. You have the right to disagree. But ease up on attacking other deejays(for no reason). We won't play that here!

I was a Billboard reporter for almost 20 years. I went around the world twice on tour. I have heard many great deejays, and Larry The Legend was one of the best. Like I said, I have been at this such a long time, and Larry The Legend was one of the worst mixers I ever heard! He was an Oxi-moron, like jumbo shrimp, Military Intelligence, and bad pizza. He was a great deejay because few moved a crowd like he did, he had them eating out of his hands. Always. But he had a hard time mixing from record to record. So, everyone is right!

It's good to have you back BB. We again have a very reputable voice here. Your experience speaks for it self.

That's right!!! 'SKIN TRADE" (LL remix) by Duran Duran was a top of the line sleaze beat! One of Duran Duran's best!!!

For you PG and LL heads...
I have just added Gwen Guthrie's Portrait album as CD of the Month as it has just been released on CD for the first time...
The CD comes with three classic Larry Levan remixes of "Peanut Butter", "Hopscotch" (instrumental) and "Padlock".
Check it out

The books say the Garage was exclusively members only - not so. A friend and me got pointed out at the door early July 1979, paid money to somebody sitting in a booth, walked up the ramp and had a good time. First impression was that the volume was LOUD. The music seemed to be basically the same tracks as everywhere else in NYC that month, Born To Be Alive included, plus some more adventuresome stuff thrown in. One thing I distinctly remember paying attention to was how long each and every record seemed to go on. Savage Lover was repeated and repeated for what must have been half an hour. I thought the mixing was ok, or at least different from the rest of the clubs in town. I was an absolute beginner at that point and had no competence to judge really, but still, it was easy to hear Larry Levan did not pay that much attention to seamlessness the way djs did at say 12 West. It was all very arresting though, my eyes were bulging out of my head with excitement, all night long. - The Strut label folks had a lot of nerve to sell that scam "Larry Levan Live at Paradise Garage" cd with it's 3-5 minute snippets of songs as the real thing. And of course some of the tunes did not exist yet in the year the thing was supposed to have been recorded live, or even in the next year, or the next.

Really...I remember seeing that CD and it looked chronologically correct. What songs came out in later years? I'll check it out!

Change Searching / Angel In My Pocket Warner Bros. Records PRO-A- 886 Vinyl 12" Promo US 1980, beamed up from the future. Also what about the CD2, made partly of the way later Mixtape Sessions by Marley Marl?
The longest of the tracks, Bunny Sigler, runs for 6 .5s, while most are c 3,5 mins long.

BUSTED! Beamed up from the future--->That's right CHANGE was in 1980, and that set was supposedly recorded in '78 or '79. And even if it was recorded in '80, LL would not be playing all older 2-4 year old songs at The PG. Some record labels are so shady & greedy. I seen it when it came out. I thought it was legit. I didn't get it because of the track listing. (I have all those songs already)
Thanks for the research Jussi!!!!!! Good stuff!!
